Maiden!!!

Monday night about an hour before I had planned to go to bed, I was transported via magical Xul powers to the Roxy Theater in L.A. to see one of the most enjoyable concerts that I have ever seen.  The band was called The Iron Maidens.  I had never heard of them before.  They are an all female Iron Maiden tribute band.

Generally, I don't care for tribute bands.  They are usually too cheesy for my tastes.  But these ladies were different.  Their musicianship was absolutely superb.  They played with such skill that if you closed your eyes you would think that you were listening to the real Iron Maiden(except for the lady singer, of course).  And the singer was awesome, too.  Usually I don't care for female metal singers--too screechy.  But this chick had such a rich tonal quality to her voice.  She had great control of her voice and sounded as though she had operatic training.  I will have to do further research on this band.

Anyway, the point is they fucking killed!  They played all the classic Maiden songs and just totally rocked them all.  The final song was Run To The Hills(one of my favorites)and it was so cool to see the whole audience singing along.  Fabulous show.  I highly recommend this band.  If these ladies ever come to your town and you have an opportunity to see them live you should totally do so!

So, you're an Iron Maiden fan? I suppose I could have guessed that. When did you become a fan of them? Have you been to a concert?

BTW

I had a really great experience last night and I'd like to share it and give credit where credit is due, but I'm too tired to write that post right now. So someone remind me later, okay! ;P

I'm still curious about that. :)

Yup.

When did you become a fan of them?

A few years ago. Funny enough, I liked metal in HS, still do to a degree, but wasn't a Maiden fan(I think back then Maiden wasn't played on the radio).

Have you been to a concert?

About 2 or 3 years ago Maiden played at the arena where the NHL hockey club plays. I found out several months before the actual concert date and wanted desperately to go. When I went online to get ticket info the concert was already sold out! Maiden has such a huge following that it's damn near impossible(unless you want to spend big $$$)to get tickets to a live show.

I've seen several of their tour shows on TV. They are always great.

I'm still curious about that. :)

Be curious no longer...this was the experience I was talking about! ;P

So how did the babysitting and video game playing go?

Hah! Okay. :)

So how did the babysitting and video game playing go?

It went fine, as usual. The eldest "baby" may have been broken a few house rules though. I can't prove it but I suspect that after I went to sleep he snuck over to the game room to play video games for an undetermined amount of time. He's almost sixteen and frankly I am starting to dislike telling him what to do and what not to do. He's always been raised to be independent and to think for himself.

In other news, it's gotten so chilly now that I've had to go shop for some warmer clothes. T-shirts are not going to cut it anymore. Unfortunately those darned shops don't seem to have anything I like. :(

This was at your sister's house?

Is this game room in the house or one outside in a business somewhere?

You would think with me pushing 40 that someone would be tired of telling me what to do or not to do. >:(

Lucky kid. Ya think your sis would like to give my mother some child-rearing lessons? ;P

I have some nice parkas that I could send ya. They certainly don't get much use here! ;P

That always seems to be the way. Did you go to that Arendsplein Winkelcentrum place?(did I get the name right?) Do they have any good shops there? Expensive, probably. Too bad you don't have a Walmart over there. :/

Hey, I sent ya a mail. :)

In the house. On of the top floor rooms, it's next to his bedroom. I sleep downstairs, 2 floors lower.

Did you go to that Arendsplein Winkelcentrum place?(did I get the name right?)

Yes, I did (and yes, you did :).

Do they have any good shops there?

Meh, they're okay. C&A usually has some okay stuff. There are loads of others. Cheap and expensive.

Too bad you don't have a Walmart over there. :/

That's not really a problem. What's so special about Walmart anyway?

Hey, I sent ya a mail. :)

I have to go sleep now so I'll check your email out tomorrow. See ya!

Niiiice! At least he wasn't sneaking out of the house. Going to play some games in your own house isn't so bad. What kinds of games do they have? Foosball? Air hockey? Video games, of course. That Dutch version of shuffleboard thingy y'all like to play? Darts? Billiards?(although getting a billiards table to a top floor might prove a challenge :/)

What's so special about Walmart anyway?

Because you can buy food, clothes, bedding, housewares, alcohol, tobacco, firearms, ammo, electronics, garden supplies...just about anything you can think of or need all in one gigantic store. :)

I'll check your email out tomorrow. See ya!

Okay, looking forward to your reply! ;D

Well, there's a dartboard that they sometimes practice on. My sister and her husband like to take part in pub competitions.
There are several types of game consoles plus a computer. They use the Xbox the most I think.

We have similar types of stores. Although I bet none of those sell ammo or guns.

Okay, looking forward to your reply! ;D

Hey, completely OT, but the season premiere of OUAT is only a couple weeks away and I got a little impatient. I promised myself I wouldn't go out looking for spoilers even though I had a little peek over at the fan site. I'm not 100% sure, but there is a possibility that Regina's love interest for season 3 resembles my fanfic pairing for her. I *think* he's supposed to be a Captain of some sort(according to speculations by some members). If it's the Dutchman I'm going to flip! :O :D (Although I'll be a little miffed with them stealing my idea and not giving me $$$)

Better give your lawyer a call. ;)

The next OUAT saeson starts November 9th over here, IIRC.

Now keeping with the topic somewhat, ;P last night they had the tribute band program on again. This time it was a Depeche Mode tribute. The lead singer reminded me of you a bit.

Are you secretly going out singing Depeche Mode, Arekino? That would be something! ;D

Arekino, what happened to your cold weather clothing from last season? Why do you only have t-shirts? Did the Underpants Gnomes expand the scope of their business?

Well, whenever you get some replacements, you should definitely get a waffle-knit henley. Perhaps in charcoal grey. :D

I still have it but my best warm sweater is 5 or 6 years old. I need at least 1 more good sweater.

Did the Underpants Gnomes expand the scope of their business?

I actually have about 10 times more underpants than sweaters.

you should definitely get a waffle-knit henley.

Those are $165.00 ! :O Ralph Lauren is a bit outside my budget range. And it's not even made of waffles. :(

Perhaps in charcoal grey.

Why that color specifically?

BTW Why did you ask me that thing you asked me in an email? You could have asked me right here.

So the kabouters *are* going for the scarcer commodity? ;P

WTH? Sorry, that is waaaay too much! This is why I like Walmart. You could get one there for like $15(or less if on sale).

I could probably find the Ralph Lauren one at one of the discount stores for much less, too.

Why that color specifically?

It looks nice. :)

BTW Why did you ask me that thing you asked me in an email?

I was a little tired of putting personal conversations on the blog for all to read. Plus, I tend to get wordy and the comments here only holds a limited amount of characters. And I hadn't used that account in a while so I figured 'what the hey!'

Oh, I see. I just googled waffle-knit henley sweater and assumed the first hit was the one you meant.

just look how good henleys look.

Are these henleys magical? Do they make me look like Hugh Jackman? That would be worth $165.00. :P

The cloth looks a bit thin. Good or Australians, but maybe not so good for Dutchmen?

LOL! They *would* be worth the $165 if they were!

Ya know, I have a funny kind of attraction to Hugh Jackman. On one hand, he's just okay-looking in the face. I'm not crazy about his nose or the shape of his eyes. But his body? Especially when he's been working out to play Wolverine? OMG his body makes my lady bits happy! Just (go)ogle "Hugh Jackman on the beach" and you'll see. ;D

You want to go for a layered look. Those henleys can be surprisingly warm. Use one for your base layer and then you can pair it with a nice berber fleece jacket and maybe a nice scarf and warm hat.

With all the globular coolening you might be going back to colder winter temps, ya never know. Ya might have to get something with Thinsulate lining. Those are nice and warm without being cumbersome.

That's what I usually do. In midwinter it's usually the t-shirt/blouse/sweater/winter jacket combo for me.

berber fleece jacket

Nah, I don't like fleece.

It does snow sometimes in Florida, right? Do you have any cloths for that type of weather?

Very rarely in N Florida. Jacksonville gets some occasionally. The last time it snowed down here was 1977. A couple years ago when we had some very cold weather that killed all the iguanas, there was a claim of some flurries in the Kendall area. IDK if that was proven. There *was* some ice in the Everglades, though.

Do you have any cloths for that type of weather?

Sure, but it usually never gets cold enough to wear them. We all play the game of 'whenever it gets down in the 70's, we wear sweaters just to say we wore a sweater even though we really don't need one'.

I have a lot of things that are more suited to cooler weather. Florida just isn't conducive for wearing nice things.

One time I was in Burlington Coat Factory(the whole second floor used to be nothing but coats)and looking at what they had to offer. I still remember to this day that they had a super nice wool men's coat that was wicked stylish--so much so that I thought to myself 'if I had a BF, I would buy him this' even though it wouldn't get much use in Florida.
