Role Models

When I was a kid I absolutely loved this show.  The family was awesome and quite the opposite of my own family.  They were loving and accepting in a creepy and kooky way and very fun-loving.  And the house totally ruled in so many ways that would appeal to a kid.  I wanted to live in a house like that so, so badly.  What's not to like?  Check out the playroom, for example:

Just look at all the cool stuff in there!  Deer antlers,  Bed of Nails,  Iron Maiden,  Stocks,  Suit of Armor with Halberd,  Book Press(for relieving headaches),  Antler Chair,  Kegs of ?????,  Rocking Ugly One-Horn Mule(bonus points if you know which classic 80's fantasy movie UOHM reference is from) and Cool Light Fixtures.  Now chech out the living room(I have numbered the awesome things because they're a bit hard to identify in black and white):

1)  Taxidermy Marlin with Leg sticking out of mouth

2)  Taxidermy Bear

3)  Taxidermy Moose with twisted antlers

4)  Giant Tortoise

5)  Harpsichord

6)  Japanese Samurai Armor

7)  Awesome Animal Horn Char

8)  Elephant Foot Waste Basket

I'm pretty sure that seeing all this cool stuff as a kid greatly influenced my tastes in unusual items and curios.  This was the sort of lifestyle that I wanted to live.  And who the heck wouldn't want to have a great relationship like Gomez and Morticia?

It was very obvious that they were absolutely *mental* for each other.  I'd like to have a playful, grand romance like that.  I've already got a pretty good repertoire of pet names,  I just need an awesome guy to use them on!  And by awesome I mean one who shares my unusual tastes and likes to have fun even if it's with something strange and unusual like dressing in armor and having an enthusiastic sword fight or practicing judo on each other or wrecking model trains or keeping carnivorous plants or dancing the tango or the waltz or... well, you get the idea.  Who wouldn't want to have a solid marriage like that?

Legend. I cheated though. Google helped. :) I do like that movie. It's such a one of a kind, sort of. It's a fairy tale that dares to take itself somewhat seriously.

Well, if you're going to get married then it's nice to have some common interests. You do realize you can share those interests as well with people who are just friends? It doesn't necessarily take a boyfriend or husband. It's nice to have romantic dreams but life is more often than not less perfect and messier.

I never wanted to be married because of the poor example of my parents when I was growing up. Now that I'm older I think I'm growing out of that attitude. I want a playmate who is also good for snuggles and some(well, maybe a lot)extra-curriculars IYKWIM. :::wink-wink::: };-P>

Yes, I think IKWYM :)

That's understandable.

Hey, did ya know that Felix Silla, the guy who played Cousin Itt, is still alive? 75 y/o. And he also played the robot Twiki(sp?)in Buck Rogers as well as Ewoks? He has quite a resume.

And I just realized that I forgot to include the morningstar flail hanging on the wall in the playroom. I have one of those hanging on my wall as well. :P

It sounds like you don´t have to change much to your interior decoration during Halloween ;P

Buck Rogers in the 25th Century was one of my favorite TV shows when I was a youngster. Dat Colonel Deering :)

I think it's funny that two characters that I liked when I was a kid were played by the same guy. I was very young when Buck Rogers was on TV and I don't remember much about it but I remember liking the robot. I was too young to realize who the actors were. I liked the Ewoks in Jedi, too. I used to collect all the Ewok figurines. That's really trippy that these characters that I liked as a kid were all the same guy.

I get that sometimes with actors that did two-bit roles at the start of their career. I watch those movies and forget that those actors are in there. Years later I watch some seriously good movie and when one of those actors is in it I suddenly realize that it's the guy/gall from that earlier movie.

I saw the first two episodes of OUAT. I like the show. It's fun and clever and moves pretty fast.

How are you seeing OUAT? Internet, TV, or DVD? 'Cuz getting to see it without continuous commercial interruptions is ideal. Lana P. and Robert C. get most of the best lines. :)

Just TV, on a commercial station so, yes, there will be those bloody commercials interrupting my viewing pleasure. :/

We get commercials about every 15-20 minutes over here.

We get commercials about every 15-20 minutes over here. That's not too bad. The last time OUAT was on I counted to see how many commercials there were because it seemed like there are more breaks that usual for that show. It's very annoying. It seems like every time it starts getting good there's another damn break for commercials. So last time it was 5 commercial breaks. OUAT is one of the few shows I like on a commercial station so all those commercials just make me nuts.

Is is still cold over there?

Oh yeah, definitely. A cold wind blows during the day. There's no snow in sight yet but clouds loom thick overhead. There's a promising silence in the sky. Will Christmas be white this year??? I need some new shoes. A splendid pair that wards off the darkest ice and allows for brisk walks on what will soon be a slippery sidewalk no doubt. Be there any gods of blizzards and snowy tempests, I call out at thee! Fill my bowl to the rim with crystal delights! Freezing as they may be, I shall feast upon them!

Or something... :)

Sounds like you need Cabella's or Bass Pro. For the shoes. Maybe some of those ice cleats thingies. And a ushanka. I cheated and looked at Google to see what your weather was like. Cold and rainy. Blech. That weather is only good for stayin' in and snugglin'. ;P

Cabella's or Bass Pro

Those look a little expensive but I guess they would last me more than a single winter.

ice cleats

I might get arrested for tearing up the pavement (not to mention shop floors) if I wear those. :P

ushanka

I do believe ushankas are coming into fashion more and more over here.

That weather is only good for stayin' in and snugglin'. ;P

Yeah, maybe I should go look for my old teddy bear. :P

Many years ago when I had only known my friend K for maybe a year or so, I had planned to go see her up in Canada some time. So I got ordered myself a Cabella's catalogue and bought a pair of nice Sorel cold weather boots and a rabbit fur ushanka. The boots were between $40-$50 at the time and the ushanka was maybe $25. I still have the boots and the ushanka. The boots have this really nice wool liner that you can take out. I like to wear the liner by itself--keeps the feet nice and toasty. :) Nothin' beats good quality at a good price.

Then around 1999 I used to know someone from work who had just retired from the army. She gave me a pair of cold weather boots that she had ordered before she retired and had never worn them herself. When I looked up that style boot online I found out that they normally cost around $200. I only used them maybe twice cuz they are big and bulky. My Sorels are more comfy. If it's something you're going to need year after year, why not get something nice(and comfy)?

I might get arrested for tearing up the pavement (not to mention shop floors) if I wear those. :P They make a couple different styles with those.
These:

or these:

I don't think they'd mess up any pavement and you can take them off once you get to your destination. So no beef from the politie.

Yeah, maybe I should go look for my old teddy bear. :P I wouldn't get jealous if it's just the knuffelbeer. ;P

Well, there's the budget to consider. Plus the weather is kinda unpredictable in this country. I'd look a bit ridiculous walking around with elaborate snow shoes if it never snows.

I wouldn't get jealous if it's just the knuffelbeer. ;P

Thank goodness. :P

Are you planning anything for Christmas BTW? A special dinner maybe?

I'd look a bit ridiculous walking around with elaborate snow shoes if it never snows. Why would you have to get something elaborate? Can't you just get some nice leather boots or something? They don't have to be big ones. Maybe some 6 hole low ones? What do you normally wear? I take it you don't have something like a Ross over there. ;)

Are you planning anything for Christmas BTW? A special dinner maybe? My mother had me put up the wee tree and nativity set. It didn't take long since I left the lights on the wee tree from last year and I only had to take the bag off of it and stick it on the table. The nativity creche I took the bag off of it and then the figurines took a little longer since I had to take them out of their storage box and tissue paper wrappings.

I think we'll be having a nice ham for Christmas dinner.

Are you doing anything special? Planning to go to any of those Christmas concerts that your town is having?
