Knock If You Dare

This guy

is very similar to the one I used to have on my front door. The one I had was about 20 pounds of solid brass. The newer versions are crappy cast iron. I used to get a kick out of peeps who would come up on my front porch and knock with their knuckles on the door instead of using the knocker. Only friends of mine would use the knocker; they thought it was the kewlest.

Unfortunately, the old door that my greenman knocker was on had to be replaced and the new door has a different design that won't accommodate a giant door knocker.

I like. The brass one must have looked really impressive.

I think I'd expect Lurch to open the door after a few good knocks with one of those. :)

A long time ago, in another house, we used to have this sort of DIY doorbell kit. It had a number of musical settings. Didn't sound very good but it was fun.

The one in the picture is exactly like the one I have except it's not brass and the round strike piece looks smaller than mine. Trust me, it's more impressive in brass, especially after it gets that nice verdigris patina on it.

we used to have this sort of DIY doorbell kit. It had a number of musical settings. Years ago we had one that chimed that tune "hear the bells ring, ding-dong, ding-dong, hear what they say, the time of day" and then it broke. My mother found another one that played the same thing a few years ago and hired someone to install it. It never worked right and I disconnected it before it caused a fire or something. That would be cool to have one that had different tunes.

Alternatively, you could install a foghorn. :p

Or a foghorn like on the old Addams Family show! OOOOOOOO-oooooo!!! LOL Ya know, when I was a kid I dreamed of living in a cool house like the Addams Family. When the first Addams movie with Raul Julia came out, that house was even cooler. My dream then was to have an office like Gomez that had the wall of weaponry. I'm working on that ATM. :P

I'll be doing some babysitting tonight (note: NOT actual sitting on babies) so if I seem quiet then that's the cause of that. :)

That would be Labor Day?

Oh, the usual, just working out my plans for world domination. Also, I watched the new Doctor Who episode yesterday. Good Times.

Hmm, grilled honey teriyaki steaks sound good.
