Goooooooooooooooold!!!!!!!!!!!
I couldn't have asked for a better women's soccer final. It was a great game and was played by the two best women's teams in my opinion. This game was the way soccer should be played; two very skillful teams playing their hardest and playing with integrity and respect. Yes, there were fouls but they weren't from dirty playing and no dives. Some of the male players could learn good sportsmanship from these ladies.
This was such a great game and really kept me on the edge of my seat, shouting instructions the whole time. LOL That pass from Alex Morgan that Carli Lloyd scored her first goal off of was a thing of beauty. I thought Abby Wambach got a foot on it at first but the replay showed that it was Carli Lloyd who got it with a lunging header. And Carli's second goal was freakin' awesome. It was perfectly struck to the far post. Hope Solo was great in goal with some key saves: two put over the crossbar and a couple stuffed at point blank range. The Japanese ladies never gave up and eventually got one goal back but just couldn't put another one in. They played their asses off and they have all my respect. No shame in that loss.
So one more gold for the US Women's National Team. They're definitely one of the best women's teams that we've had.

I'm glad you had a good time watching the game. And congratulations, I guess.
I'm watching women's taekwando ATM. A lot of screaming and kicking. It seems a rather limited martial art. Maybe if I knew what to look for it would be more interesting.
shouting instructions the whole time.
Have you ever played soccer?
Okay, the men's taekwando is a lot more energetic.
Olympic Taekwondo sucks. It's all about trying to score as many points as you can in 2 minutes. Not much technique, just lot's of failing. It reminds me of cats fighting. Flailing and screeching like cats.
It reminds me of a story back in my kung fu days when us kids wanted to do tournaments. Our teacher decided to give us a taste of tournament rues while sparring. Well, all of us would have lost because technique goes out the window. Kung fu is mostly defensive and our training was waaaaaaay different from failing about just throwing punches and kicks as fast as you can to score points in a one minute round. That pretty much ended the desire for tournaments.
Have you ever played soccer? Just at school in PE class. Not on a team or anything.
different from failing about
failing?
Also, I still don't get why this stopped the tournaments. Was it too painful?
It reminds me of cats fighting.
In the women's taekwando, yes. The men don't squeal so much.
Just at school in PE class.
When I was a kid, barely a day would pass by that I didn't play some soccer matches with the other kids in the neighbourhood. Or we played other ball games like a kind of soccer squash. Good times.
failing? Ah, attack of my sticky "L" key again. All the 'failing' should read 'flailing'.
why this stopped the tournaments Because the tournaments were incompatible with what we were being taught. My school was very "old school" in that it didn't want to glorify fighting. What we were being taught was supposed to be for defense only(I'm hearing Mr. Miyagi in my head...;P). Tournament fighting was not real world fighting and not what our teacher wanted us to focus on.
barely a day would pass by that I didn't play some soccer matches :) IIRC there was one kid in my neighborhood who was *really* good at soccer. Nobody wanted to play soccer with him because it was impossible to get the ball away from him or to keep possession yourself.
Hey Arekino, why don't you go check out that aikido place again?
why don't you go check out that aikido place again?
It's a national vacation period ATM. I'm not sure but I don't think they've started lessons yet. I could check....Okay, apparently lessons start august 13th at the aikido school. I would cost me 25 euros a month. It's a bit much. Plus Í'd need to buy the gear. Seems a bit of a luxury in this economic crisis. I may not even be able to keep my unemployment benefits after the elections.
On a more positive note, the Dutch women's hockey team has won the gold medal. Yay.
Oh, yeah, I watched your wimminz hockey team win the gold. The Dutch fans are always the best. Best outfits and best brass pep band. :) Congrats!
Okay, since the aikido thing is a luxury, ol' Xul will just have to "train" you. Does your bibliotheek have a copy of Tao of Jeet Kune Do? If so, get that and read it. And if they have exercise DVDs, get a Pilates one for strength training. Too bad you aren't local, I could get you to come wash and wax my car and do some other chores! ;P

They have several - quite detailed - books on different martial arts. I doubt I can learn any of them by reading about them though.

I bet you could! :)
Is that crane technique a real thing? It looks so unpractical.
I doubt I can learn any of them by reading about them though. I recommend ToJKD because it's theory and philosophy. Read that first. You can learn some useful things aside from techniques. There are also a shit-ton of instructional YouTubes out there.
I just got through with a "training session"...just cleaned my bathroom. ;P
Is that crane technique a real thing? It looks so unpractical. The one in the movie is Hollywood embellishment. The real one is *quite* practical. Just google 'Lyoto Machida crane kick Randy Couture' and see.
just cleaned my bathroom
I'll soon be doing some work in the bathroom as well. Painting the ceiling white, again. Damn fungi.
Just google 'Lyoto Machida crane kick Randy Couture' and see.
I googled and did see. Randy didn't check his distance to Lyoto. Unwise. :)
