USA! USA! USA!

What was that? Playing a 4-3-3? And the best they've looked all tournament?

Well, nice job. If the USA wins the championship, do you think Americans will finally start to care about soccer? Or will they start viewing it as more of a womens' sport?

Playing a 4-3-3?

Dammit, why aren't you out there applying for that soccer coach job? ;)

Well, nice job.

Yeah, finally. They'd looked lethargic until last night. I had seen them play a bunch of international friendlies and assorted other games leading up to the WC and they looked like tigers. Finally they looked like themselves and Germany not so much. :)

I thought it was all over when Johnston pulled that girl down in the box and got a yellow card and Germany awarded the PK. I was surprised she didn't get a red card. Then Sasic completely missed the net on the PK. :O After that, I knew it was only a matter of time. :)

Carly Lloyd really stepped up her game making her PK and then assisting beautifully on the 2nd goal. :)

do you think Americans will finally start to care about soccer?

I think it's mainly younger peeps who are into it. Most peeps my age and older couldn't care less. I remember the glory days with Mia Hamm and Brandy Chastain etc so I want them to do good.

Or will they start viewing it as more of a womens' sport?

I think that's already the case. It's the one women's sport that is kinda mainstream and respected.

why aren't you out there applying for that soccer coach job? ;)

LOL I'd be happy with a water girl job at this point. ;P

Damn, it's warm here... Actually... It's hot! And it's going to get hotter!

I guess the weather guys were right after all.

I wonder if this is an ongoing trend. Will it get hotter every year? Damn.

Last night was the warmest night on record in the Netherlands. Some are predicting a temperature of 41 degrees Celsius for Saturday afternoon. I'd be surprised if that wasn't another record. We'll see.

I want airconditioniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnggggg!!!

You peeps and yer bitchin'. ::shakes head:: They were showing some English folks bitching about the 30 degree weather. I'd love it if it was only that much here. We had a record breaking 35 the other day with the heat index making it feel waaaay over 40 degrees. It has been in the 32-32.5 range for the past 2 weeks and it is only the beginning of July. August is usually the hottest month here. :/

Will it get hotter every year? Damn.

I doubt it. I don't believe in all that man made globular warmening nonsense. It's all related to whatever that big glowing gas ball in the sky is doing and axis tilt. It all seems cyclical.

I want airconditioniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnggggg!!!

You should come visit me. I have some very cold AC here. ;) And all the stores have very cold AC. And the cars, too. You only have to endure heat for a few minutes between house-car-store. You can complain about the heat outside from the comfort of a cool house. ;P

Well, it seems it'll be a rematch between USA and Japan on Sunday. That's too bad as I was rooting for England. Terrible that it had to end on an own goal. That poor girl looked devastated. Of course, QoH with all her empathy and understanding made the lovely statement, "Oh get over it. It's only a game." That pissed me off and I told her that only someone who never played sports would say something like that. (Truthfully, only a PD would lack the empathy to say something like that.) I told her that these people dedicate their whole lives to get to that point and to lose on a stupid mistake in the last few seconds really sucks because you fucked your whole team. Any normal person would be upset.

Anyway, you can't get someone who has no empathy for others to start showing some. Sigh.

In other news, I had another good ab workout last night. I also found a pair of camo linen gaucho pants that I forgot I had tucked away in a drawer. They fit really nicely now. I think they were tucked away because they used to fit not so nicely. Maybe I'll have to send you a pic of me looking all Korps Commandotroepen. ;P ;D

Meh, the English are lucky. They got some rain this past week, we didn't.

First thing that crossed my mind. :)

If only ACs were cost-effective over here. :/

I'm not sure but I don't think our commandotroepen wear gaucho pants. I would of course appreciate a pic but I don't think I have any pics to send you, so that would be unfair.

I bought me some new comicbooks. Swamp Thing and something I don't know yet. Oh, and another Stormwatch volume but that hasn't come in yet.

Is it because the electricity to run them is high priced? or is it that you don't have that many very hot days to warrant purchasing one? A cheap room unit over here is maybe in the $150 range.

:D ;P

Yeah, yeah, I could have phrased that differently. ;)

I don't think our commandotroepen wear gaucho pants.

They don't. I've seen some pics and they look pretty badass.

I guess you don't have any of those military surplus stores over there? When I was a kid they didn't have the big sporting goods stores like they do now, so some items like camping type stuff or tarps of whatever, you had to buy at the surplus store. There were several different ones when I was a kid. They always had those posters of "special forces" which were scantily clad women in camo bikinis emerging from the water or holding guns or some such thing.

I would of course appreciate a pic but I don't think I have any pics to send you, so that would be unfair.

True. So no "special forces" pic for you! ;P ;D

Once again I have to be dragged out to go grocery shopping with QoH. I don't know why we need to go again so soon. She just likes the routine I guess. :/

Not anymore. We did have one in my town when I was a kid. They had the coolest stuff.

Once again I have to be dragged out to go grocery shopping with QoH

So what did you buy?

Question: How do you keep yourself informed about the world? Just watching the news and reading news sites or is there anything else you particularly value?

They had the coolest stuff.

Oh yes, definitely. There is still one not too far from where I live. It has been there for as long as I can remember but it's not the original owner(the new peeps are kinda dicks). IIRC, when I was a kid, they used to have this really cool machine gun from probably WW2 and some mortar launchers. They always had an old army vehicle like a half-track parked out front as an advertisement. They must've sold the half-track some years ago, now there is an old medic wagon out front. They always had the coolest stuff. I always liked looking at all the different unit patches and insignia pins(I have a small collection of patches).

Anyway, when I got older, there was this service where you could send away for various catalogs. I sent away for a surplus one that had all kinds of stuff as well as foreign for dirt cheap. That's where I got all those old DDR uniforms and crap and the 2 Dutch uniform jackets. I used to wear the DDR overcoat all the time when I was a teen looking all badass. ;P

So what did you buy?

Grapes, yellow squash, blueberries, asparagus, green beans, butter pecan ice cream, onions, some potato chips, milk, eggs, butter, Romaine lettuce, orange juice. I think that all. ;)

How do you keep yourself informed about the world?

Yeah, mainly TV news and the internet. A couple blogs where the peeps live in the UK and give their perspective on things.

Hey, I started a new Word document last night. I even have a title--As Seen On TV. Now I just need to write out some stories. I think I'll do the MMA one first. :)

Of course.

I think I told you the story of the National Geographic magazine with the DDR troops on the front and how a male relative had me scared to death over it when I was a little kid(I was likely under 4 y/o). For some reason I felt like having those uniforms was a victory over them. The coat was an officer's one and was a nice quality. It had the "Grenztruppen Der DDR" patch on the cuff, otherwise it just looked like a really nice coat.

Whaaaa...? That sounds so freaking delicious. :)

OMG yeah! It was a limited addition Publix premium one. All the Publix ice creams were on sale for $3.50/half gallon. I had never seen that particular one before and had to try it. It was even more delicious than the regular butter pecan ice cream. Do you not have that flavor over there?

Looking forward to reading those. :)

I have about 400 words of dialog written out so far. (I tend to be dialog heavy on my stories.) After I write out the dialog I go back and fill in all the "said ___," "____ replied with a smirk", etc. as well as all the descriptive parts.

Maybe I should just stare at pictures of snow covered landscapes? ;)

Or put some ice cubes down your undies. ;P

Not that I'm aware of. Closest thing I can find is this.

(I tend to be dialog heavy on my stories.)

I think that's okay. Too much detail in descriptions of surroundings tends to put a lot of strain on the reader's brain (and stops their imagination from working).

and fill in all the "said ___," "____ replied with a smirk"

You leave out the names? Why?

Hey, I heard the US won against Japan BTW. Congrats on that. :)

I agree. I prefer reading dialog and letting my brain imagine the rest. Stories are more interesting with the characters' perspectives IMO.

You leave out the names? Why?

I don't leave out anything. I just wrote that as an example.

I heard the US won against Japan BTW. Congrats on that. :)

OMG, that was such an exciting game! Especially when my team had scored 4 goals in 20 minutes. :D And the goal Carli Lloyd scored from the half line was the best. ;D She was quite a beast in the game, playing like she was possessed(hat trick and all ;) )

I think after the 3rd goal QoH came to join me(after all the screaming and yelling coming from my room). She got to see the Carli Lloyd goal and she was quite impressed. ;P It's too bad they let Japan get 2 goals. They let up a little after the 4th goal and that's what happens. :/ The own goal off Johnston's noggin was unfortunate. It was nice to see Tobin Heath get the 5th.

They said on the news that that particular game set a new record for most watched soccer game in this country with 15% of the people here watching. The previous record was the women's WC game in '99 when we won. ;D Women's soccer is more popular here than men's. ;D

Still warm here BTW.

Well, hey, that's the optimistic view. :)

It sucks because she never shuts up and she continually asks stupid questions that if she would STHU she would find out. Also she knows nothing about sports or the rules and I have to constantly explain everything to her to no avail since she doesn't understand the simplest things.

Does she normally ever join you when your watching TV?

Not usually.

Did she keep quiet during the match?

Of course not. ;P

Were you pissed off that she came into your room during the match?

A little. She was suddenly wanting the USWNT to win instead of making remarks about all the players being lesbians(which not all of them are). She really liked the Carli Lloyd half line goal. :)

There was a small pep rally today in Los Angeles IIRC and Megan Rapinoe was introducing all the players and being silly and she said that Carli Lloyd was running for president and that she was going to win. LOL If only that was true. She'd make a better president than most of the idiots running. :)

Sooooo, anything new and exciting happening with you? Any shrinker action? I've been working on the fic a little bit. I'm already up to 1,200 words. I'll probably go to 1,500 - 2,000 to complete it. :)

BTW, I've had a stroke of inspiration for another "chapter" to ASOTV. One of my favorite shows is Adventure Time with Finn and Jake and my most favorite character is the Ice King. I'm gonna do a story about Emma, Henry, and Regina watching that show and them all liking the Ice King because he's a lot like Regina in a lot of ways and Regina finds him relateable. Then Emma and Henry conspire to buy her an Ice King t-shirt for a gift. I was just looking on Google and there are a bunch of good ones that I would like to have. ;D I think it'll make a cute story. :)

But seriously, Google Ice King t-shirt and look at the "images". The "Hey Princess, did you get my text?" one is perfect for the story as well as "All magic comes with a price". I also neeeeeed the "Winter Is Coming" one as well as the black shirt with the Ice King sitting on the Iron Throne. There are so many good ones. ;D Ooh, ooh! The Adventure Time Ice Kings Dungeon Division hockey one!

I only just posed it in the wee hours of last night/this morning. Already I have 2 follows and one favorite. :) Give it some time, though. I'm sure they'll be steadily coming in. I think I have at least 3 more chapters in mind. Don't know how long I'll make them. Writing is kinda hard...well, good writing is. Anyone can publish any old crap.

Maybe not. Unbeknownst to me when I published it, it was Swan Queen Week(some thing that peeps on Tumblr do 2X/year)so all those entries pushed mine waaaay down right off the bat and I didn't get many views. :/ I'll just have to keep adding chapters I guess.

Please, don't get like QoH who likes to discuss her BM's with me. Ever do any prize winners? Ones so massive that it looks like you evacuated your whole intestinal tract? ;P

Nope. I *have* been following a new show called Forged In Fire where each week 4 different dudes(professional blacksmiths/blade makers)compete to make some kind of bladed weapon and the winner gets $10,000. I think it's pretty cool. :)

It's not a competition. Peeps just write for pleasure and entertainment purposes.

So what are the requirements for victory?

In the first stage, the competitors are told what kind of blade to make and the length parameters, then they have to draw what they have in mind. They are given a few hours then to take a piece of steel and forge a blade. After the blade is made, they are judged and the 3 best continue on. Then they have to fashion a handle out of whatever materials are provided in a cabinet of materials. After that, the 2 best are chosen. The dudes then have to make another weapon at their home workshops. IIRC they have 5 days to make that one. Then they come back and the weapon is tested for cutting ability, strength, etc. Whichever one passes all the tests wins.

I saw the little shrinker that couldn't today. Same old, same old.

Was it a new one or the posh guy? It's too bad you're not getting any help from it.

Posh guy. We got onto the subject of comic-books BTW and he said he owned a particular one. He also brought up something I had mentioned a number of sessions ago. It seems he is paying attention to what I say after all. Well, he does make notes while we talk.

How's the writing going?

Fantasy or utilitarian? For a fantasy blade I like a lazy S-curve. There was one I saw years ago that was a dagger(and IIRC there was a short sword version)that looked like a dragon. The pommel was the head, the hilt was the wings, and the blade was shaped like an undulating tail. It was impressive looking.

For functionality I prefer a hand-and-a-half sword. I also like a Kukri.

he said he owned a particular one.

:O

he does make notes while we talk.

That's good. At least we can assume he's reading his notes before your sessions. ;P

How's the writing going?

I haven't attempted to write anything new yet. :/

Oh! Nearly forgot--there was much MMA on last night and one of the fights was Holly Holm. :) She fought Marion Reneau who I kinda like(she's representing us old ladies as she's 38 ;P). Holm won, of course, but it wasn't a violent fight. She landed a lot of kicks which made the difference. Also I learned that Rousey is going to fight Bethe Correia on August 1 in Brazil. In the name of all that does not suck, please, please, please let Bethe beat her ass! ;P ;D

Can we? The he brought it up, it was like he had to make an effort to remember it. As if he had to dig deep to find the memory. He could have been faking it maybe.

Rousey is going to fight Bethe Correia on August 1 in Brazil

So that's 2 weeks from now? Will you be able to watch it live, you think?

Nah, Rousey's going to win. Rousey always wins. She gets to be on all the talk-shows. They're not going to let her lose.

Hmm, maybe. I wonder how many patients he sees? I wonder how therapists remember everyone's issues enough to help them. I know they're supposed to take notes and all, but still... :/

So that's 2 weeks from now? Will you be able to watch it live, you think?

Yes, it is in 2 weeks, and no, I won't be watching it as it is Pay Per View only. I'll likely check on Sherdog for updates and play-by-play, though.

Rousey's going to win. Rousey always wins.

You're probably right, but I can wish. It *is* in Brazil, and they aren't very fair down there. If a non Brazilian fighter doesn't KO or submit their Brazilian opponent, then the judges always say the Brazilian won, even when it's blatantly obvious that they got their ass kicked. Anyway, Bethe is a nasty piece of work. I'm hoping she doesn't try to come out "guns blazing" and get caught in some stupid move and Rousey grabs onto her arm like she always seems to do for her damn armbar.

They're not going to let her lose.

Yeah, Dana White makes millions of $ of her. But he could make lots of $ should there be a rematch like with the Silva/Weidman fights.

Meh, SSDD. There have been a lot of MMA fights on this week, so I've been watching those. I watched an interview with Cyborg last night. It's funny that I used to not like her, but she really seems to have matured as a person and has become very professional and gracious, unlike a certain other fighter that shall go unnamed. ;P They discussed her fighting that unnamed one. Seems unnamed one refuses to fight at any other weight than 135#(in order to protect her champ status). Cyborg is just too big IMO to fight at 135#. She is currently the 145# champ for another promotion. I've seen her fight Muay Thai at 145# and she always looks too gaunt IMO.

Got any projects for the near future (besides the FF writing of course)?

No, nothing.

Hey, have you ever played the game The Witcher? Someone is writing a OUAT FF based on that. It's only up to 2 chapters so far, but it seems kinda interesting.

No, I haven't. I have seen Let's Plays of that game of the first hour or so. It looks nice. It's very open world. Takes place in a medieval world. Lots of swords and sorcery.

I saw Jurassic World yesterday on Youtube. My nephews alerted me to it by phone. Apart from there being loads of plot holes and forced dialog, it was an entertaining movie. Especially the last half hour or so. The one thing I really liked was how the dinosaurs moved, like they had weight to them.

So you're reading FF? Better than doing nothing, I guess. ;P

Sounds like something that I might like if I played games anymore. :/

The last time I played anything(other than the time 15 years or so ago that my sis' friend bought me Warcraft 3 for PC)was when I had the old Nintendo NES. My mother always resented video games since it's something that she wasn't interested in. I hardly ever got any new games for it. The only time I'd get one is if my sis bought me one for Christmas or my birthday. I think I had only 3 that I actually liked and played all the time(I think I had 6 or 7 in total)--Solstice, Castlevania, and The Legend of Zelda(you can see a bit of a theme ;P).

Solstice was really cool but underrated. You were a wizard and had to find all these missing pieces of a magical staff. You couldn't kill any of the critters in the game. You could only use potions and your wits. It was quite the puzzle game. I never beat it. The best I could do was obtain 4 of 6 staff pieces. I knew where 5 of them were, but the one I could never figure out how to get to(and that was like the first piece that you encounter in the game). Le sigh. Very frustrating. Castlevania and Zelda I beat numerous times to the point where I made a game of how quickly I could beat them without getting killed. ;P

So you're reading FF? Better than doing nothing, I guess. ;P

Yes, I have a few stories and authors that I follow, so whenever they update or write something new I read it.

In other news, I had been jonesing big time for some pizza lately, but QoH can never vacate the kitchen until it's sooooo late at night that I'm too tired to go make one. Finally last night, she turned in early or her(around midnight)so I slipped down to the kitchen and made one from scratch.

I just used the quick method for the dough that was given on the back of the yeast package. I used some premade spaghetti sauce that I had already open in the ridge and added some oregano to it, and some provolone cheese since I didn't have any mozzarella(and provolone tastes similar), and some pepperoni that I had shrink wrapped in the downstairs fridge. I turned out pretty good although the crust was kinda soft. I think it was like that because I forgot to rub it with a little olive oil and put some corn meal on it. I think the next time I go to the trouble I'm going to make a double batch. :)

I also cut up a 35 pound watermelon that I had bought. It was really, really sweet--the best I've had in a long time. I think in all I have the equivalent of 20 liters worth of watermelon to eat. :O

Just don't overeat. Those things have a lot of calories.

Almost literally. The damn thing was so big that I ended up covered in juice after cutting it up. Juice on my arms, on my chest...and no one to lick it off. Such a pity. ;P

What are you up to besides comics? Is it still too hot? It is still too hot here, but IMO it is almost always too hot here. :/

Playing video games? Not much else to do here. I keep think I should draw something. Unfortunately I'm a talented demotivator. :/

I just received a comic book called "Lazarus". It's a kind of Sci-Fi Game Of Thrones. I think I like GOT better.

She doesn't do much cooking or washing dishes any more, she's just plopped down on one of the chairs at the counter watching her cable news shows all day long. The rare times that I have the kitchen to myself I like to have one of the Sirius rock channels or the classic alternative channel on for tunes. Other times I just like the quiet. Once in a while I'll put on MMA or whichever other program I might want to watch at the time.

You can keep them warm during winter. :)

I don't know about that. I only know one person who lives there and if she wants to stay warm she can try going to hell.

Do you pick the titles yourself? or is it like a 'comic of the month' type thing where they send you random ones?

I have gotten myself fully involved in a OUAT FF by one of my favorite authors. It's not complete yet(it's up to 85 chapters so far). I've gotten to 53 so far(started it yesterday). I keep seeing it updated kinda regularly so I figured I'd give it a shot. I've read quite a few of her stories, even one that was well over 100 chapters and they are fairly easy reads but really good quality stories and writing. IIRC she's Dutch but lives in the UK.

Apparently Maine is not always a good place to live according to recent news. I guess no place is perfect.

Yep. There's some randomness in there though. I like to pick things that I hope are different and interesting.

Haven't I heard of her before from you? Or was that someone else? What's the story about?

Someone I used to know personally. Leave it to the bitch to go to Bangor, too. >:(

I know of 3 other Maine residents--the 2 Senators and the most famous Mainer of all--Stephen King. ;) (Mr King lives in Bangor BTW, and it's probably no coincidence that Crazy Bitch moved there, too, as she was quite obsessed with his books--had ALL of them IIRC.) And just another coincidence: a few nights ago the Sirius played Pet Sematary by the Ramones and it has been stuck in my head ever since. O_o

Maine is not always a good place to live according to recent news.

Why? What happened? Probably not anything that a native Floridian would bat an eyelash over. The amount of crazy horrible bad things that happen here in real life every. single. day. would make Stephen King's stories look like happy nursery rhymes. :/

Haven't I heard of her before from you?

I don't recall. There are at least 3 Dutch peeps whose stories I like. This particular one is the only one who lives in the UK as far as I know. The only other person who live in the UK that I mention is Her Stoatliness, but she's as American as I am. ;P

What's the story about?

It's about what could have happened if Regina encountered Emma when she was 18 instead of Henry bringing her to SB when she was 28. So far it's pretty good. I'm curious as to where it will ultimately go as it isn't finished yet. I'm glad I'm able to read it at my leisure as opposed to having to wait for updates. This particular author has always had a knack for capturing the season 1 Regina.

Funny 'bout that--I always liked S1 Evil Queen and disliked S1 Storybrook Regina. EQ was a fun, fabulous, sassy smartass and Regina was just a bitch with a stick up her ass, but FF peeps somehow manage to bring the characters to life better than the originators, so the Queen qualities make their way to SB Regina rather nicely. Also, I really *hate* with *fire* the whole Regina and Robin Hood situation. A couple things happened that got me so mad that I questioned whether or not I even liked Regina as a character any more. The Evil Queen would have NEVER allowed anyone to dick her around and treat her like shit the way that asshole did. >:(

Anyway, if QoH will ever dislodge herself from the kitchen, I have a bunch of different meats that I bought today that need to be attended to--repackaged in portions and shrink wrapped for freezing. I got 2 packages of chicken wings, 1 of breasts, 1 whole pork loin, 10 pounds of pork chops, and a package of imitation crab. I think I'll make my usual spicy Asian crab and then make some crepe skins. That crab is good for crepes(with a spicy sesame bechamel sauce). ;P

The phone AND the toobs? Geesh. Do they make those cable out of papier-mâché?

We've had bad weather as well. Two trees around in our neighbourhood were blown over. One of them fell on a car next to mine. I think I got lucky there. In another town one person died from a branch falling on him/her.

Hope you're doing okay. :)

Yep. :( I went back over to the nabes and called the company again. The 1st time I had to deal with the animated system, the 2nd time I got through to an actual customer service lady who spoke English(a miracle), explained the problem, and a tech is scheduled for Monday.

I just went back out at 2:30am because I'm having toob withdrawals and I discovered there is dial tone etc at the box out back, but none inside still. Either the receiver I used earlier was busted, or it came back sometime this evening. Whatever the case, still no service inside. I have the toob rigged up at the outside box ATM. I think there's something screwy at the outside box. The last time a tech came out he replaced the carriage thingy in there but not the whole guts. I think therein is the problem. :/ Will find out for sure Monday.

Hope you're doing okay. :)

We didn't have as wild a time as you it sounds like. Just the rain and it wasn't really very heavy, just steady and for several hours.

I'll likely have to do this same procedure tomorrow night after QoH goes to bed. Need to feed my toobs addiction. ;P

You know, if your part of town is ever hit by a serious, let's say, hurricane, you're going to have a hard time trying to find a way to communicate with the rest of the world, it seems to me. Everything would just melt away. :o

Nope. TV service is through satellite, so different company. I think there's still some loose connection in the interface box out back. When I had a closer look after QoH went to bed, it seemed like stuff in there was loose. I think I managed to get it snapped into place, but maybe I just got lucky. The last time a tech was out we had the same problem, but the tech was the typical lazy sort that they send out and didn't want to be bothered. He only replaced the carriage because I insisted, other wise they take the attitude that if it's working at the moment they are there then they don't need to do anything. It really pisses me off how these lazy bastards never want to do their damn job.

if your part of town is ever hit by a serious, let's say, hurricane...

Yes, been there and done that back in 2005. It sucked a bag of balls it was so bad. We didn't have electricity for 15 days and the phone and internet was out for nearly a month. I was having such bad internet withdrawal that a lady from work offered to let me come to her house to use hers as her area got their utilities restored in less than a week. We had 3 hurricanes in that particular year, but Hurricane Wilma was the one that did all the damage. The other 2 storms we mild in comparison. Just one of the many reasons why I hate Florida and want to move away from here. Would your old peeps mind having another housemate? ;P

Anyhoo, have you ever seen this insanity called Crossfit? They have something called the Crossfit Games which I'm watching ATM. It's complete madness. :O

Some sort of exercise thing?

Yes. The first time I ever encountered it was on a religious channel where some "father" was lording over his 3 boys like he was some sort of drill sergeant making these kids do all these exercises several times a week for several hours and they are all timed, like you have to do x amount of reps in a certain time, then try to do more reps the next time like it's a race to do the most reps. I thought it was something to do with religious nuts. I guess the name is derived from cross training and training for strength and endurance. Anyway, I get a bad feeling from it because all these people emit the "fanatic" cult-like vibe. You know I have no problem with exercise since I do it several times a week, but these peeps take it to an extreme degree. I just don't get the point. They make exercising a competition. All the dudes look like musclebound beasts and the chicks, too. I like to exercise to be fit and look good, not to look like a dude. :/

Well, the phone repairman came out today. It was a Dominican dude this time. He was pretty nice and was really thorough unlike most of the rest. He did several tests on the lines. One came up that there was a short in the line, but then when he tested it again it came up okay. Eventually he switched the lines in the interface, went up on the telephone pole out back and checked all that out, went down to the main box at the end of the block and switched the pairing that our line was connected to, then submitted a work order for the missing cover from the junction box. He spent probably and hour and a half checking things. I really appreciated the effort he went through. It remains to be seen whether anyone comes out to put a cover on the junction box. He gave me the # to the supervisor and said if no one comes to fix it then call the supervisor. I'm sure no one will fix it and a call to the supervisor will likely be useless as AT&T doesn't give a shit and their corporate policy seems to be to only fix things if they are completely destroyed by a hurricane. :/

You know, it's things like that that make me really appreciate how dependable the internet/phone system/cable TV is where I live. If something is not right with the system I know practically for sure that it will be fixed.

Sure, but one is usually training toward a goal. The first time I saw this it raised red flags for me because of the extremeness of the exercising and the fanaticism. When I saw that dude making little kids do it, it seemed borderline abusive to me and also if you are lifting heavy weights and trying to do reps as quickly as you can and for as long as you can it's a recipe for injury. I did a little digging around the toobs for more info and indeed peeps who partake in this Crossfit thing have a high instance of a normally rare condition called rhabdomyolysis which is exercising until your muscle cells explode and resulting kidney damage from the kidneys trying to filter exploded muscle proteins. And then these morons joke about that shit happening. Sigh. Have at it, 'tards. I prefer to exercise responsibly. When my body tells me enough, I stop. I don't need to prove myself to anyone.

it's things like that that make me really appreciate how dependable the internet/phone system/cable TV is where I live.

That's because your country hasn't devolved into a 3rd world banana republic fascist shithole yet.

Yep, you are correct, sir.

Oh, BTW, last night on the news they played some footage of a KLM airplane trying to land at Schiphol during that wild weather you lot had. That sucker was rocking back and forth like mad in the crosswind. That pilot(and everyone on board)must've been shitting themselves. :O

I can well imagine. I know that pilots are supposed to be trained for emergencies but even so, that one had a pucker factor of at least 10. :O

One time while driving to a job in Ft Lauderdale I had to pass the airport and saw an airplane come in for a rough landing like that. Not quite as bad as that one, but it still bounced a few times on touch down. :/

Well, that's not all it's cracked up to be, I can tell from experience.

It's usually the second generation that ends up on the doll. Their parents still had the ambition to make something of themselves, after that long journey to a strange country. Their offspring ends up in a cultural limbo, facing a choice between their parents' culture and their local peers' culture. Some kids just have awful parents, of course. Those kids are the ones that end up having it really bad. And who knows what happens when they themselves have kids.

saw an airplane come in for a rough landing like that

When I was a kid I actually wanted to be a pilot (among other things). But as it turns out, I've never set foot in an airplane, never flown in one not even as a passenger. Kids' dreams.

Does your country have quotas and standards for who they allow into the country? In 1965 IIRC a certain shitbag Senator from Assachusetts had the immigration law changed. Before we had quotas on how many immigrants were admitted per year to allow for assimilation and also they had to have some sort of skill. The people who used to come here came because they wanted to be Americans and worked hard to make something for themselves. All that has changed since then. Now any ol' asshole only has to get here and the govt hardly deports anyone even the criminals. Since hardly anyone gets deported and they can commit crimes like crazy without fear, the # of people coming here has ramped up exponentially. And most of them get on welfare and game the system by having "anchor babies". The whole thing is all fucked up.

I've never set foot in an airplane, never flown in one not even as a passenger.

I haven't either. QoH is deathly afraid of flying, therefore I've never been on an airplane. It's funny that my half siblings traveled by plane before without incident and QoH never got crazy over it, but then they were allowed to do whatever the hell they wanted to. I'm the only one who was treated like a prisoner for my whole life and never allowed to do anything. >:(

Hey, it's not like you allow yourself to do a whole lot. ;P

anything interesting going on over there?

We just discovered a third gate to Hell in the Veluwe. Apparently it's wreaking havoc on the local wildlife and several environmentalists have volunteered to go down the Hellgate and deliver an angry letter to Satan. Critics of this initiative argue that, since sending angry letters failed to convince the Dark Lord to close the other two gates, it would be better to start misbehaving. They state that committing as many of the Seven Deadly Sins as possible might lead to hell filling up more quickly, thus keeping the Devil's Demons busy reaping souls. The gates could then be filled with concrete without any Demons interfering.

I just made some pizza. Twas yummy.

Well, yeah, it's pizza. You didn't eat that with knife and fork, did you? :)

Oooooooh!!! How exciting! I bet there were some pesky preteens out there camping and messing around with a geode and playing heavy metal backwards on their iPods. That'll do it every time. ;P

deliver an angry letter to Satan.

That won't work. I suggest sending QoH with her notebook full of notes from watching cable news. She can yammer on to him for hours and hours. It'll drive him so nuts that he'll close the Hellgates on his own to prevent her from entry. ;P

I used to work at this one old ratty temple on Miami Beach that had a real Hellmouth by the handicap ramp. It bubbled up thousands of roaches all day long. Very nasty. :(

You didn't eat that with knife and fork, did you? :)

Of course not. What kind of barbarian do you take me for? ;D Usually I make them after QoH goes to bed, but this time around she brought up the subject and I said I felt like making another one. I made 2--one for each of us since she likes to load up hers with raw onion and I don't want any encroachment to my side. It turned out that 1 packet of pizza dough yeast will stretch to make 2 pizzas the size of the frozen ones they sell at the store(maybe 12 inches diameter?). I made mine cheese and pepperoni like last time and the same for QoH and then she piled hers with raw onion and then I baked 'em up. I used less oregano in the sauce this time and it came out just like store bought. :)

The store bought brand Freschetta has the best tasting sauce IMO. I don't know exactly what recipe they use. I just use Bertolli 4 cheese sauce from the jar and put a little oregano in it. That tastes fine to me. ;P

Well, Rousey/Correia is tonight. I'm sure it'll be rigged for Rousey to win. Her arrogance and stupid comments really piss me off. She claimed the other night to be the greatest female fighter who ever lived. That is so stupid on so many levels. If I had been born of privilege like her and had all sorts of money and connections to pursue a career in martial arts and had parents who encouraged it, I could be a real hell-beast of a fighter, just like anyone else who has the inclination + opportunity. Not everyone who has the ability gets to pursue their dreams because of unfavorable circumstances. And if it was possible to take Lucia Rijker at her prime, give her MMA training and put her in a ring with Rousey, Rijker would destroy her. Rijker was freakin' scary as a boxer. She could hit as hard as a man. Also, what of the Olympic judoka who won gold? Rousey only won silver. Surely they must be better than her to have won gold?

Anyway, I'll at least get to see the prelims on TV. Jessica Aguilar who trains locally is supposed to be in one of those. I'll be cheering for her. IIRC she holds the WSOF straw weight belt. :)

Sigh. I'm having my own fight with Ma Nature ATM. I'm bleeding like a stuck pig. :/ (and QoH is being her usual annoying self and I'm supposed to mow the lawn or something :/ )

That is not uncommon. Blogger eats mine all the damn time and I'm actually signed in. :/

Did you see it? What do you think?

No, I didn't see it, only some still shots and a few seconds of the actual "fight". Rousey cannot throw a punch or kick to save her life, and I'm supposed to believe that she TKO'd Correia in under a minute? And Correia is known for her striking? Pfft! I think I'm going to stop getting upset over fake UFC women's bantamweight fights, just like I would not be upset over equally fake WWE wrestling(which I don't watch and care nothing about).

Someone brought up a valid point at the Sherdog forum--that there is not much of a pool of women bantamweight fighters because the sport for women is in its infancy and women don't make much money at it. It's a basic cost/benefit analysis. How many women want to get their faces ruined and other injuries doing a sport where you hardly make any money? And also, it is very expensive and time consuming to train at an elite level, so that excludes most people.

Rousey is a creation of the UFC. She's their "pretty"(barf!) face of women's MMA and they make a lot of money suckering people into buying $50 PPV to watch one of her less-than-one-minute fights(that are clearly rigged). I'm sure they foot the bill for all her training as well. So someone who has no other job than to train is going to have an advantage on others who only train part time because they have jobs and real world things to deal with.

Another point that was brought up, and I'm almost ashamed that I hadn't thought of it before, is one of the oldest boxing promoter tricks in the book--having your fighter fight nobodies to build up their record. Correia for instance, thinking back on it, fought a bunch of people I had never heard of, then it looks like she's some kind of beast contender.

Another thing that has been bothering me is the weight class itself. How is it that someone (Rousey) who is 5'7" and fought at 155 pounds in judo can cut weight down to 135 pounds and still have strength enough to fight? I understand the how and the why of weight cutting, it just seems the weight is wonky for someone of her height. Cyborg looks sick when she has to cut down to 145. Rousey never looks like she's in shape to me, so how is she making weight?

I can tell you from my own experience that I'm 5'2" on the dot and I walk around at 120 pounds. I'm fairly fit but comfortably fluffy enough to look healthy(because I like junk food but workout enough to offset it ;P). The least I've ever weighed as an adult is 106 and that was 20 years ago. I was down to 109 with the bullcrap with CB and I looked like I just got out of a concentration camp I was so damn thin. I know that they dehydrate themselves as part of the weight cut, but how can someone who is muscular and in good shape cut that much weight?

I'm watching an old UFC event ATM. Sara McMann and Lauren Murphy fought. McMann was an Olympic silver medalist in wrestling IIRC and she is definitely built like a wrestler. Even the other girl when they showed them talking in their corner said she was super strong. Both of them were like 5'5" and very physically evenly matched for the most part so the fight was interesting at least. :)

IIRC Correia told her not to kill herself and then they made a big deal out of it because Rousey's dad committed suicide when she was a kid. Correia said she didn't know that and it's a common saying in Brazil. I would not have apologized. I don't believe in apologizing to people who get upset over stupid things. Rousey has no class and I have stopped caring about anything she has to say as it's par for the course.

I think compared to most people you probably already are. :)

If I actually did real workouts instead of the maintenance ones that I do and didn't eat junk I'd really look like one. ;P

Hope you feel better soon.

I'm better now. :) Ma Nature has buggered off until next month.

Have you ever been down to Hemmers Gym in Breda? I hear that a lot of famous Dutch kickboxers and MMA guys train there. ;D

No, I didn't see it

That's too bad. It was all over youtube.

Well, it's up to you to decide who to apologize to.

"Don't cry" remarks by Correia

I meant this:

"I said the exact same thing she was saying to me at weigh-ins," Rousey said at the post-fight press conference. "You know, she was screaming in my face at weigh-ins. She was saying, 'Don't cry.' So I turned around to her after I knocked her out and I said, 'Don't cry.'"

Have you ever been down to Hemmers Gym in Breda?

Nope.

I hear that a lot of famous Dutch kickboxers and MMA guys train there.

Are you suggesting I go there and take some selfies with them? ;P

UFC is psycho about taking down any unofficial footage of their fights. Plus, there's not much to see and I'm done caring.

I meant this:

Ah, is that what Correia was screaming in her face at the weigh-in? (I saw the weigh-in, much longer than the "fight") I don't speak Portuguese. I thought she was going to injure herself while screaming as her eyes were bugging so far out of her head.

Are you suggesting I go there and take some selfies with them? ;P

I hadn't thought of that...not a bad idea. ;P

No, I was just wondering if that was the gym they were going to send you to for martial arts therapy? ;P

In other news, paternal unit woke me up this morning by persistently banging on the door. I have no idea what he wanted as I ignored it. I'm as tired of his nonsense as I am with QoH. I envy people who have normal parents who put their kids needs above their own. :/

You're done caring about this match or about any of Rouseys matches?

martial arts therapy?

Good thing I checked because there apparently is such a thing as "martial arts therapy". I'm not sure what to think of that.

paternal unit woke me up this morning by persistently banging on the door.

Maybe he got a part time job as an alarm clock? ;P

I envy people who have normal parents who put their kids needs above their own.

Well, your parents are exceptionally selfish, I'd say.

That one.

I was going to do a new post last night but I was too tired after washing a ton of dishes and then doing some laundry. I had found a pic of Tiffany Van Soest where she looks like she could be my body double, no exaggeration. We seem to have a very similar body type. I was wanting to post a pic of my abs but I don't really want an actual pic of myself on the toobs, so I'll post her pic which is almost identical to what my abs look like now. ;P

Anyway, at least I have her and Lion Fights Muay Thai to keep me entertained. She's an awesome fighter and seems really cool. She called out Valentina Shevchenko after her last fight. That would be a good fight. IDK if Valentina would do it as she seems to have Dana White from UFC interested in signing her for MMA.

"martial arts therapy" I'm not sure what to think of that.

I can tell you with absolute certainty that if you do a traditional Kung Fu or Karate class, you will get your swagger on(because of improved fitness, flexibility, and all the badass techniques you learn). And breaking boards is highly satisfying. ;P

your parents are exceptionally selfish, I'd say.

They are mental. It was QoH's turn to wake me up this morning with nonsense. She claimed that someone driving a black truck was trying to get her and then some other guy ran into the yard and planted a bomb under her truck. I shit you not. Her paranoia leads her to interpret things to fit her twisted confirmation bias. The guy in the truck might have been one of the junk collectors who go around looking for things to get and I'm fairly certain the guy "running in the yard" was likely the casual carry mail carrier(I asked a lady in the store who was wearing a postal uniform about peeps not in uniorm delivering mail and she told me only full time hires get a uniform and that "casual carry" peeps just use street clothes). I'm assuming from QoH's description of events that it's likely the casual carry guy missed our address and then jogged back to put the mail in the mail box which is next to where QoH parks her truck. The mail wasn't there when she was outside, but when I went out to check for the bomb under her truck, the mail happened to be in the mail box then. Sigh. Fun living with a crazy person. /sarc

I've been watching some of her matches. She looks like a calm and calculating fighter. She's fast and nimble but has a very stable stance. She didn't do well good against Jin Tang, maybe grappling isn't her strong suit?

They are mental.

Sounds like it. Just slip some anti-psychotics into her coffee. ;P

No. She's mainly a kickboxer. She said recently that she's happy to stick with Muay Thai kickboxing as there had been talk of her maybe going into MMA. I guess it didn't suit her.

Just slip some anti-psychotics into her coffee. ;P

If I had some I'd definitely do that. I have wondered for a while what it would be like to have QoH on mood altering meds, ever since they gave her that Valium when she had her cataract surgery. She was actually not a pain in the ass for a couple hours. It's too bad they don't sell those over the counter. ;P

Maybe I'll get around to doing the new post tonight. I got a nasty headache last night and just thinking of posting something new was too much. :/

How's your weather? It is way too hot here and now we have African dust in the mix. :/

Do you watch both the men's and women's matches or just the women's? You know, I've notice in tennis that women's matches tend to be more about technique and the men's more about strength. Is that the same in Muay Thai matches?

It's too bad they don't sell those over the counter.

My mother has been taking some pills from the reform/bio/vegetarian store. They seem to work. And it's all natural, just plant extracts in pill form in a low dose. Not the homeopathic crap.

How's your weather?

It's gotten warm again. About 30 degrees Celsius. Where the heck do you get African dust from? We get Saharan sand over here sometimes but we're much closer to Africa.

Both. Muay Thai is very entertaining.

Is that the same in Muay Thai matches?

It's hard to say. The men are of course stronger, and some of the dudes from Thailand can destroy their opponents legs with seriously hard leg kicks, but it seems that the fighters they get on Lion Fights are fairly top notch. Both the men and women show good technique. Of course it all depends on the fighters and matches. I like the Muay Thai better than regular kickboxing because elbow strikes and tripping/dumping are allowed. It adds more to the arsenal and the strategy can get like a chess match.

Of course I always love when Van Soest is on the card because you know it's going to be a good fight, and she is probably one of the best at dodging/head movement/angles, plus she's sneaky with the elbows.

Also Malaipet Sasiprapa(even though he's really cocky) and Yodsanklai Fairtex are 2 really good ones from Thailand. If they are on a card you know you are in for good entertainment. :)

Not the homeopathic crap.

I think QoH would require industrial strength ones. ;P

Where the heck do you get African dust from?

It gets blown across the Atlantic from the Sahara. We get the very fine particles up in the atmosphere and it makes everything dreadfully hot and dry. And it makes the sky look gross and depressing. :/

Yes, I noticed that.

BTW apparently a Dutch guy named Nieky Holzken has become world-champion welterwreight kick-boxing. :)

Did you watch the fight?

Ah, well, it' s only temporary hopefully. Just like the heat I'm presently experiencing. It's like my boy was already preparing for autumn and Ma Nature pulled a fast one on it.

A Dutch guy? has become champion at kickboxing? The hell you say! ;P As shocking as Dutch peeps riding bicycles and playing soccer! ;P ;P ;P

Did you watch the fight?

No. I shall have to look into it. :)

Ma Nature pulled a fast one on it.

She's a shady bitch. I'm reeeeally tired of the heat here, and it's only the beginning of August. It won't become bearable until November or December at least. :/

Shit! That fight was supposed to be live on Spike last night. I checked the channel guide before I had to go shopping for 4 hours with QoH but somehow I missed it. :/

I've seen Nieky Holzken fight before, he's really good. And he trains out of Breda. ;)
