Some *Stimulating* Thanksgiving Dinner Conversation, A Craptastic Movie, and MMA

At Thanksgiving dinner, one of the guests happened to be a sales rep for a medical supply company.  He was talking about the sorts of things that he sells to customers.  Then he mentioned that at least he was not the guy who had to sell the penis pumps.  My ears certainly *pricked up* at the mention of that!  Ha!  (Arekino's not the only who is expert in ducking quickly!)  So the guy says that the poor bastard who has to sell the penis pumps also has to take the clients' measurements to get the correct fittings.  LOL  And that penis pumps come in different sizes.  They don't call the smallest one "small", they call it "standard".  I don't recall what he said the other two sizes were...I guess large and extra large?  Jeez, what a job to have!

Oy, what is it with me and the topic of penis pumps always *coming up*? (Okay, I'm stopping now!  ;D)

Anyway, I just got through watching Oz the Great and Powerful.  I was hoping for the best but expecting the worst.  I figured that it couldn't possibly be *that bad*, but it was.  It was even more awful than I had anticipated. There goes two hours of my life that I can never get back.  :(     Hollywood, please stop doing remakes and come up with something original, m'kay?  And stop relying on CGI for every freakin' movie.

Now on to the MMA!

Last night there was absolutely *NOTHING* on so I found myself watching the weigh-ins for tonight's TUF Finale.  I was a bit surprised to learn that there was going to be three women's fights.  The one between Julianna Pena and Jessica Rakoczy is to determine the winner for the ladies, obviously, but also one between Roxanne Modafferi and Raquel Pennington which I was very surprised to see, and one between the two tall chicks (whose names escape me at the moment) from Team Rousey.

This season's TUF was a bit of a disappointment for me.  I was excited to see women fighters this season, but most of them fought like crap.  I very much liked a couple of them personality wise, but their skills just didn't seem to be up to par in my opinion.  Dana White seems to disagree with me there.  I guess the ratings were high for the shows in which the ladies fought so he went ahead and signed them all to contracts.  Pena seemed to me to be the one with the best all around skills, and Rakoczy, even though she was the last one picked for her team, was an accomplished boxer before coming into MMA.  Even at that, I didn't think she was that great.

In my opinion, both Tate and Rousey were awful as coaches.  Rousey spent all her time mean-mugging and acting childish and being insulted at Tate's mere existence.  She needs to grow the hell up already.  That nonsense does not impress me.  It just makes me hate her even more, which I didn't think was possible.  And Tate, who I really didn't care for, just proved to me why my original opinion of her was correct.  To me, she didn't seem to posses any great fighting skills and didn't seem to be very good at teaching her fighters.  She didn't seem to be able to give good instructions at ringside, either.  Same with Rousey.  It seemed like Edmund was doing the majority of the coaching at ringside.

Oh to be fifteen years younger with my current fighting knowledge!  I'd tear these chicks the hell up!  I'd put my Evil Chinese Fighting Tactics to use!  ;D  Anyway, I'd at least make a good coach.

I just don't get these people.  The last fight I watched between Pennington and Rakoczy was making me nuts.  Rakoczy is a boxer.  Her skill set is boxing.  So why, if you are Pennington, are you going to try to box with her?  Rakoczy was leaning forward an awful lot.  I would have gone for a front kick to the face or a flying knee.  Or at least pepper her lead leg with kicks.  Give her some roundhouse kicks just above the knee or just above the ankle.  Or take her down and drop some elbows.  Or since your take-downs weren't working, put her up against the fence and throw some knees or uppercuts or elbows.  Jeez...   Pennington was driving me crazy.  She is a strong girl but she only wants to throw one or two punches at a time.  What a waste.  And freakin' Tate didn't even give her any good instructions.  That pissed me off to no end.  Idiot could have helped her fighter with some clear instructions but instead chose to cheer-lead her into doing the same thing that wasn't working.  :::face-palm:::

Anyhoo, I hope the fights tonight are better than the ones from the other TUF episodes.  And they threw in one between Gray Maynard and Nate Diaz.  Hopefully that one will be entertaining.  And for the fight between Tate and Rousey in a few weeks,  I wish they could both lose.

Indicating size after proper use, maybe? :P

I don't recall what he said the other two sizes were...I guess large and extra large?

Or "engorged" and "water balloon"? ;P

I wish they could both lose.

Maybe you can place a (small) bet on that? Make some money that way?

I hope it wasn't from getting double-teamed by two 16 y/o girls! Because I'd definitely have something to say about that! ;P

Nah, I think he said they wouldn't want anyone to feel bad if they needed a size "small". Can't be thinking that your willy is small to begin with! ;P What's funny is that he sells those things to peeps who have a problem getting it up, but I've only ever heard of peeps who didn't need one to begin with using them to get massive erections. I guess those peeps get the larger-than-needed sizes. ;P

Maybe you can place a (small) bet on that? Make some money that way?

I wish I *did* have money on all the main card fights. I correctly chose the winners of all of them! :)

I got a bit worked up on the Pena/Rakoczy fight. I was shouting instructions to Pena. At least she had good enough sense to listen to me as she TKO'd that chick with one second left in the first round! ;P

Anyway, I have to say that what Pena may be lacking in actual skill, she more than makes up for it in the X factor. There is a thing in the martial arts that I was learning that is described as like an animal energy. In Spanish it would be "gana" as in a hunger or desire. That chick definitely has it. She even said after the fight that she is like an animal in the ring--either kill or be killed.

The Modafferi/Pennington fight was tough to watch as Modafferi is such a nice person that you don't want to see her get hurt. At the beginning of the fight, it looked like both of them were not comfortable having to figh each other, but then Modafferi started throwing a lot of punches and kicks. The only problem is it looks like she doesn't have much power behind her shots. In the second round, Pennington had Modafferi on the ground and it looked to me like Modafferi could have submitted Pennington with a gogo plata(not too many peeps would know to do that) but didn't. Pennington got the best of her in that round and then went on to turn it up in round three. I gave Modafferi the first round and Pennington 2 and 3. Only one judge agreed with me, the other two scored it 30-27 for Pennington.

The men's final was good, too, as the Team Tate guy beat Rousey's guy in the first round by rear naked choke. It was great for me as Rousey was all butthurt that her peeps lost and she was acting like the asshole that she is during the post fight interview and then was rude to the other commentaters and then got up and left. LOLOL

I wonder if one day they'll allow that to happen. Just a small change of the rules. :)

Doesn't matter. I'd still have something to say. ;D

Kali in a kayak! You're sick again?!? I think you need an immune system transplant or something. :/

I wonder if one day they'll allow that to happen. Just a small change of the rules. :)

Just like the good ol' days when the Romans ran things! ;P

In other news, I hurt my neck last night from either weight lifting or punching drills. It was better when I woke up this morning but my shoulders were a little sore form all the punching. Now my hand injury is acting up. I think it's all the damn rainy weather making my body act wonky. Sucks getting old!

Sooooo, did your nephew survive his party? No police, swat teams or hostage negotiators involved? All buildings and structures are still intact? ;P

I'm not sure whether to blame my immune system or the cold virus. It's partly because of the weather as it's cold and wet.

Sucks getting old!

Still better than not getting old. ;P (although I wouldn't mind an elixir of youth)

did your nephew survive his party?

Possibly. I haven't talked to him yet.

No police, swat teams or hostage negotiators involved? All buildings and structures are still intact? ;P

Well, his father came round to pick up my youngest nephew Saturday and the kid asked him how it had gone. He said it had gone alright but something about the way he said it made me think there was more to it. Maybe I'll hear about it Wednesday.

Was there a OUAT episode yesterday or not? I forget.

Too bad Regina isn't a real person. I'd have what she's having! ;P And she seems to have a lot of potion recipes for what ails you. ;D

Was there a OUAT episode yesterday or not? I forget.

Yes!!! And it was Regina-centric which makes me very happy! She was taking charge and kicking ass like the boss that she is! :) I guess you could say she was a bit of a *mostly* evil super hero. Lana was superb in that episode. There was one exchange between Regina and Rump that cracked me up and another with Regina taking care of business that actually made me go, "YES!!!" out loud and throw a fist in the air.

There was one little bit that kinda creeped me out. Regina was whipping up what looked like an industrial strength magical version of an SSRI with what looked like Absinth, bath salts, and a secret spice down in her dungeon/lair but doing it in front of someone and it was just an uncomfortable thing to watch.

Other than that, fabulous episode!

There is a chick who does the OUAT episode reviews at tv.com and her recap for this ep just cracked me up. I think I'll steal some of her pics and do a post some time this week. :)

Good to hear the writers aren't getting lazy.

do a post some time this week. :)

Something to look forward to then. :)

It was a cold and misty morning. The sun barely broke through the clouds. Yet, I had to get myself to the hospital to have some blood sucked out for testing. The hospital is just a short walk from my house. Unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to eat anything or that would screw up the tests so I felt kinda hungry while I was there and was a bit worried about getting low blood sugar level. It all went okay though.

Sometimes it's hard to tell. Some episodes are great and others are just meh. The next one is probably going to piss me off. Regina just saved *alllll* their asses yet again, and then it's gonna be right back to the hate fest. Hopefully, Emma will be all like, "Don't you bunch 'o bitches be hatin' on the mother of my son! I'm still the sheriff of this town and I'll bust a cap in your asses!" Cuz she and Regina were getting along like besties. Emma all of a sudden knows how to finesse Regina and talk her down from the psycho-ledge. :)

I wasn't allowed to eat anything or that would screw up the tests

Ah, one of those. My mother usually has to do one of those after she sees her endocrinologist(who she saw today) but surprisingly, the doc wants to wait another 3 months. Three straight days this week of doc appts. Got another one tomorrow. :/

So, do you usually carry on like a drama queen when you have to go for one of these tests where you can't eat beforehand or is it just my mother? ;P

Glad you didn't pass out or anything. Is everything okay? Did you have some delicious muesli or a nice steaming bowl of porridge upon returning home?

Hey, it's a reason to get out of the house. ;)

Apparently, yes. :)

(The blood drawing I'm okay with. The not eating is the factor I'm not used to)

Did you have some delicious muesli

Yep.

I can't help but find it a bit strange that Regina is so darned angry at Snow for what she did to her mother. I mean, a couple of episodes ago she was ready to do the same thing herself. And now Snow is wallowing in self-pity as if she's never killed anyone before.

Meh, I'm just glad it's over now. At least the time spent with the doc was short and sweet and QoH didn't require any shopping afterward.

Apparently, yes. :)

Really? I meant that as a snark at my mother, but I guess you get grumbly when not fed as well. ;P

I can't help but find it a bit strange that Regina is so darned angry at Snow for what she did to her mother. I mean, a couple of episodes ago she was ready to do the same thing herself.

Now ya see, I can *totally* relate to Regina because we have basically the same mother. I'm *just like* Regina when it comes to that. I can be ready to murder mine one minute but then, if someone says or does something really assholish to her, then I get offended and pissed and ready to go all MMA on their ass(cuz I can't go all Aztec-priest-heart-rippy). It's a weird dynamic but typical for peeps who were raised like us. It sounds absolutely crazy but that's the way it is.

And now Snow is wallowing in self-pity as if she's never killed anyone before.

Yeah, peeps at the message boards have brought that up, too. Snow has killed plenty of the queen's guards, ogres, etc, but then she gets all depressive over Cora.

The other thing that cracks me up is peeps carrying on about how evil Regina was as queen. Well, how is she any different than any other monarch throughout history? I mean, it's pretty much standard operating procedure to kill rivals and assorted peeps, raze uncooperative villages, lock peeps in dungeons, and do underhanded and shady things. Every monarch in history would think, "So what's the big deal?" ;P ;D

I think I understand it to some degree. I too would like to drive over my parents with a bus sometimes but I wouldn't stand for anyone else harming them.

but then she gets all depressive over Cora.

I've given this some more thought and perhaps she's like that because she killed her for the wrong reasons? She could have just given Regina the heart without putting the kill spell on it. That would have stopped Cora as well. It would have been the Good thing to do. But Snow lost her faith in Good and now she has a kind of spiritual crisis.

Of course, Rumple would have died had she done the Good thing and then Henry would have had to miss his newly found grandfather. Maybe Snow didn't want that for Henry so she killed Cora for selfish reasons.

I just see it as self-defense and defense of others.

Every monarch in history would think, "So what's the big deal?" ;P ;D

Well, I'm sure the Dutch monarch would disagree. ;) (but then we've got him under tight control :P )

PS, Apparently Regina doesn´t like surprises, according to this Groundhog Day episode I saw last night. I wonder if that´s part of the reason she´s so angry with Snow. She´s disappointed about Snow not being predictably Good.

Snow is so invested in her own goodness that it becomes self-defeating at times. She's a pathological altruist to be sure. One of these 'I'm good so therefore all my intentions and deeds are good' and when it doesn't turn out it's a gut-punch.

Give me Regina and her defiant 'I regret nothing!!!' statement this last ep. At least she effectively gets things done. I like that girl's fire and sass. It reminds me of someone. ;P ;D

Well, I'm sure the Dutch monarch would disagree. ;) (but then we've got him under tight control :P )

Ya, but he's restrained by all that Constitutional stuff. I'm talking about proper monarchs whose word was the law. ;)

Groundhog Day episode

I still remember the one line from that ep that cracked me up--Regina is dissatisfied with how the curse is working and she storms in to Gold's shop and declares, "I'm not happy!" to Rumple-Gold, and he's like, "Doctor Hopper's office is down the street" or something like that. LOL It's funny cuz in these Storybrooke flashback eps where Regina gets pissed and goes to Rump to chew him out, he doesn't have his memories and just looks at her like she's nuts. I love those scenes between Lana and Robert. They have great onscreen chemistry.

Apparently Regina doesn´t like surprises

That's what happens when you are raised by QoH. Ya get these control freak/OCPD tendencies. I used to be like that. ;D

Nah, she realized she'd done the Evil thing right after she'd handed Cora's heart over to Regina. She regretted her actions immediately. A pathological altruist wouldn't have that problem.

I think we have to consider that Good and Evil may actually be natural/magical forces in the Enchanted Forest. It stands to reason people takes sides then. Snow chose her side when she was just a young girl. Around the time her mother died.

Give me Regina and her defiant 'I regret nothing!!!' statement

She's either lying or... Nah, she's just lying. :)

At least she effectively gets things done.

Really? Is she actually happy now? declares, "I'm not happy!" to Rumple-Gold

They have great onscreen chemistry.

Very true. They have a lot of good actors in the show though. Even the kids are pretty good.

I used to be like that. ;D

In what way?

Well, I see that you were not bad enough this year to get your free trip to Spain from Sinterklaas or else you wouldn't be here leaving me sassy comments! ;P

A pathological altruist wouldn't have that problem.

def. "altruism in which attempts to promote the welfare of others instead result in unanticipated harm"

Sure, she knew what the harm would be to Cora, but there are other examples from this season that certainly fit the definition. Unfortunately, I can't tell ya or spoilers and stuff. ;P

I just don't like insufferably sanctimonious characters who see everything as black or white(I'm sure there's a pun in there ;D)

She's either lying or... Nah, she's just lying. :)

Under the circumstances that it was said, she couldn't have been lying or they'd all have been toast. ;)

Really? Is she actually happy now?

Being happy and getting things done in the last couple S3 eps is two different things. ;P

Even the kids are pretty good.

Yeah, like the little girl who played young Snow. Not only did she look like Snow, but she had her mannerisms down. Also, the little kid who played young Rumple in the waaaaay back flashback. Had his looks, accent *and* mannerisms. It's kinda creepy that they manage to find kid actors like that.

In what way?

Hmm, lets see...I was angry an awful lot, and if things weren't done exactly to my high standards that would piss me off, and being OCD over time and schedules etc. I certainly don't like certain types of surprises. ;)

So, did Sinterklaas leave ya any chocolates or goodies?

That seems like a silly definition to me. It should include the blindness to the caused harm.

she couldn't have been lying or they'd all have been toast. ;)

I see. Then she really is blind to her own mistakes. ;P

I just don't like insufferably sanctimonious characters who see everything as black or white

And Snow is one of those characters? Doesn't look that way from where I'm sitting. Do the writers really let her become such a simplistic caricature? That would be rather disappointing.

So, did Sinterklaas leave ya any chocolates or goodies?

Well, some cupcakes. Nice ones though. I'm not complaining. :)

There's more to it than that. I've thought about the old line 'if you could go back and do X differently' in the context of regret. Well, X might have sucked at the time, but now am I better for having experienced X or did I learn anything or grow from the experience. Did I get some unexpected benefit? If yes, then I don't regret it. I think Regina looks at it the same way. ;P ;P ;P ;D

Do the writers really let her become such a simplistic caricature?

She and Charming get pretty annoying.

Aside from a few minor physical injuries that I caused myself, I'm okay.

I have to go out in a bit to do something ridiculous. I'll explain when I get back. I'm also looking forward to some MMA tonight. I still have that post I promised to do. :)

A whole weekend to clean a bathroom? Damn, that *is* dirty! I'm accused of having a dirty bathroom all the time(which it's not) and never cleaning. The truth is QoH's bathroom is much worse than mine(especially the floor which tends to collect lots of makeup detritus). The things that get "dirty" in my bathroom is the shower and sink because of all the lime and crap in the water. There's no problem with "bad aim". ;P ;P ;P
