MMA, 2 Concerts and OUAT

Saturday night there wasn't much interesting on TV.  There was some shitty UFC fights from Brazil.  I usually don't watch those as it seems like the fights are fixed so the Brazilian fighters can win.  I tuned in just long enough to watch the main event between Hendo and Belfort. And right on cue, the Brazilian Belfort won in the first round.  It looked like Hendo slipped or something and then when he was getting back up Belfort kicked him in the head and the ref stopped the fight.  In my opinion, it seemed like it was a quick stoppage.  The more I watch UFC, the more I'd swear there's some shady shit going on.

So that fight lasted all of two minutes so I flipped around to find something else to watch.  I landed on a concert by a band called Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.  I had never heard of them before but they put on a damn good show and I was definitely entertained.  I'm not sure what the genre was.  I guess some sort of rock.  Then afterward, there was another concert, this time a live one from Denver with a band called Blackberry Smoke.  I hadn't heard of them, either.  They were described as a Southern Rock group, but the band described themselves as Outlaw Country.  I'd say they were Southern Rock with some snarky gospel-y lyrics.  These guys seriously kicked some ass on stage.  I thoroughly enjoyed that concert as well.  The lead singer played guitar as well as sing and he was one hell of a guitar player.  The whole band was seriously tight in their musicianship and I always appreciate that in a band.  So I highly recommend them.

Now...OUAT!  Tonight's episode was okay but not great IMO.  I'm getting a little tired of Neverland and can hardly wait until everyone is outta there!  There were a couple funny moments.  I liked where the dwarves were talking about how nice it is without the Charmings around and the lack of chaos and mayhem and the line about Doc getting his Miata squashed by a giant.  LOL  And also Rump and Regina snarking at each other and that Regina held up her end of a bargain for once.  And *someone* using the magic that was learned from Regina.  The one thing that I found kinda funny, mainly because it's me being myself and cracking myself up, was the "secret magical item that must be retrieved" reminded me of the Hellraiser puzzle box.  That would be hilarious if Pinhead and the Cenobites were summoned to open up a can of whoop-ass on a certain little punk who so richly deserves it.  And the two Hogwarts rejects turned out to be relevant characters and not two more annoying plot devices.  For now.

It's part of the entertainment business, right? So I'd be surprised if there wasn't some shady shit going on. Would that be a deal breaker for you though? Would you stop watching if you knew for sure?

And *someone* using the magic that was learned from Regina.

I think I know who that was. Unless someone else learned about his/her all new magical powers.

the Hellraiser puzzle box.

One of my favourite props. :) The first two Hellraiser movies are so good.

Yeah, but suuuuuper messy. :P

Exaaaactly. That's why UFC is referred to as "the BIG show". It's gotten just like boxing and sumo. Fights are fixed because betting is involved, or pandering to a certain country, or which fight is going to generate the most interest(and most revenue). It's literally a billion $ business IIRC. When there's that much money involved there is gonna be shady shit. That's one reason I enjoy the "minor league" promotions. Those guys are trying their hardest to make it up to UFC so the fights are better.

Would that be a deal breaker for you though?

It's almost a deal breaker now. That's why I don't enjoy UFC. It all hype over substance.

Would you stop watching if you knew for sure?

Sure. Then it would be just like WWE which I can't stand.

What is really good is the old Pride fights. They show those on one of the sports channels. Some of those fights are crazy!

I think I know who that was.

Yeah, those two are getting on surprisingly well. I wouldn't be shocked if she said, "Ya know Regina, you're right about them being two idiots. They are really annoying the hell outta me. Why don't I move in with you and raise Henry together!" And then there would be many faces like smacked arses and lots of tongue wagging. ;P

The first two Hellraiser movies are so good.

Yes, definitely! Although I *did* enjoy all of them.

Yeah, but suuuuuper messy. :P

At least the suffering would be guaranteed to be legendary! ;P ;D

Surely, it most be possible to create a portal to some Hell World? Why hasn't anyone done that? I mean, if some of those characters are supposed to be so darned evil. The only thing that comes close is that Fire World place from the sleep spells.

Ahhh, that was the very early days of Pride when it was basically anything goes. I'm referring to the fights where they put some rules in place and had 3 rounds, 1 10 minute round and 2 five minute rounds.

Surely, it most be possible to create a portal to some Hell World?

Maybe the Cenobites were on vacation when they did the Fire World eps. ;P

BTW, at TV.com the chick who writes the OUAT episode reviews said the same thing as me about the Hellraiser puzzle box and the Harry Potter rejects. LOL ;P

I had to cut my comment up there a bit short as QoH was nagging me to go to the store RIGHT NOW!!!!(as if she EVER gets out of the house in less than an hour)

Not that I *don't* find the early 'anything goes' Pride ones entertaining, they most certainly are. I was mainly referring to the later Pride fights. Those are great and I don't question the reality of those.

BTW, the fight that you linked to had my favorite Dutch fighter, Bas Rutten, doing the commentary. ;D

Surely, it most be possible to create a portal to some Hell World? Why hasn't anyone done that?

Cuz nobody wants to come to my house. ;P

And hey, I see that you are having really good sleeping and/or snugglin' weather. ;D

Is there an emoticon for a sad LOL?

It's certainly getting harder to get out of my warm bed and step into the cold. It's okay once I'm up and out and dressed in warm clothes, eating my hot muesli. People are apparently predicting a "Winter Of Death" this year for our little country. And yes, It would be nice to be able to snuggle with someone. :P

How's the weather in your corner of the world?

Just google Don Frye vs Takayama. That is one of the most *memorable* fights IMO. Also, Fedor Emelianenko and his brother Alexander(with all the Russian mafia tattoos) put on some good fights. Oh! Bas Rutten vs Masakatsu Funaki!

How's the weather in your corner of the world?

Today when I steeped outside, it wasn't hot. It is one of those weird in-between temperatures. I think it's 79F and very breezy. It's not bad as it's not hot per se, but it's not cool enough for my liking.

Yesterday, it was maybe 83F and I went out to trim the plumbagos in the front of the house. It wasn't so bad when I first went out as there was a bit of a breeze and partly cloudy, but as I got into my work it felt hotter. By the time I had finished, my shirt was drenched with sweat just as bad as if it was a truly hot day. I had to jump in the shower afterward. :/

Soooo, Winter of Death...is it supposed to be colder than usual and peeps can't pay for heating? That's one good thing about Florida. You're likely not going to freeze to death during "winter". ;P

I worked up a sweat as well in today's chilly morning. I finally got round to washing my car. It's a shiny red automobile now. :)

I was actually going to take a little spin but I felt I the windows weren't clean enough to get good view of the road all round. And once I started to clean the windows, I just had to clean the whole thing. I don't really have an excuse to drive somewhere now...

You're likely not going to freeze to death during "winter".

Well, I have to assume people were exaggerating. I've never heard of people freezing to death in this country.

Hey, I'm busy watching OUAT ATM and I just found out that the actress who plays Belle is the same actress who played "Pregnant Clair" in Lost. I thought she looked familiar. I haven seen all Lost episodes but now I do wonder if there are any other "cross-overs". What do you think?

I finally got round to washing my car.

I got around to vacuuming the floors in my car a couple weeks ago. The rest of the car is in need of a good washing but QoH insists on the car being kept in the carport now and her truck is parked in the front of it in the driveway. If I need to get my car out, I have to do 'musical chairs' car version and that's a pain in the ass. And since the episode with the dogs tearing the crap out of the car, it's like what's the point in trying to keep it clean when it's all torn up?

I've never heard of people freezing to death in this country.

I didn't think your country was ghetto like that. ;D

What do you think?

I never watched Lost. That was on when I was working at the fun job and was friends with "C" who was a coworker. Her husband, "F"(like someone else I know ;P), was into that show big-time and we used to laugh about that. The premise of the show didn't appeal to me so I didn't bother watching it, plus I worked all the time and didn't have many serial shows that I watched.

Anyway, the first season of OUAT they used to do what was called Lost Easter Eggs which was numbers or hidden references to Lost.(they still do it, but not so much) I have no clue, but some peeps who post at the OUAT forums would mention them from time to time. They also have some Star Wars nods that they do. Last 2 eps had a Lost reference(candy bar) and Star Wars one(hologram).

In the case of Emilie De Ravin, I like her. The guy who plays the giant in season 2 comes from Lost as well.

and that's a pain in the ass.

So you don't drive it at all anymore? Could QoH have had a hand in this dog episode?

Yeah, I noticed that as well. This last episode had Dr. Whale go a bit suicidal. It was interesting seeing Jennifer Morrison in a hospital setting again and getting played by an unruly doctor. :P

Just to take QoH to her doc appt on Mondays and occasionally to go to the post office.

Could QoH have had a hand in this dog episode?

I secretly blame her. It's a long story beginning a year earlier. A stray kitten showed up in the yard and instead of taking it to animal services she insisted on feeding it. Eventually, it got big and had kittens of its own. One of the kittens we found dead on the porch but didn't know what had happened. In hindsight, it was probably those damn dogs. Since the dogs had a taste for blood as told to me by the neighbor(he said that they had been killing the cats on his block), the dogs came back for more. Apparently the surviving kittens used my car as a hiding place and the fucking dogs tore the ever-loving shit out of my car to get to the kittens(until I came out and stopped them). Until a few months previous, I had been parking the car at the side of the house, but QoH insisted that I start parking it in the carport because the stupid clear coat paint was bubbling from being in the hot sun. So, because of things that QoH wanted, the car is now all fucked up. If she had listened to me and took the damn cat to animal services like I had wanted to, there would have been no kittens here for those fucking dogs to go after. If the car was parked at the side of the house even with the kittens, I doubt that they would have tried to hide in it to get away from those dogs. So yes, it's QoH's fault.

Oh, BTW, the guy who plays Jafar on OUAT in Wonderland was from Lost, too! Lot's of cross pollination. ;P

Oh, I forgot to mention a funny story. Last night, QoH invaded my room and was babbling about something. Somehow, the subject of self defense came up. I was telling her that all the fight scenes that you see on TV are unrealistic because the one absolute "kill switch" when you know self defense, especially if you are fighting a dude, is to kick/strike him in the balls and the fight will end pretty quickly. Then I mentioned that after that, when the dude is writhing around on the floor, you could always move in to choke him out for good measure! LOL (I was saying it in jest. Nut-strike and then walk away would be sufficient. ;D)

Anyway, I talked her in to letting me "demonstrate" a rear naked choke on her. LOL I barely put any pressure and she started acting like a baby and saying I was making nerve pains go through her neck. LOL

Imagine if I was really cranking it! And in doing the demonstration, I realized just how short my arms actually are. So there is no room for escape once I've locked on! LOLOL

BTW, TUF is winding down. It's too bad I hate with fire one coach and the other one I just don't care for. Some of the fighters on there are pretty cool peeps and this particular season most of the fighters didn't act like a bunch of annoying adolescents. A few of them I could see being friends with IRL. Roxanne was especially cool. :)

Heh. Yeah. ;D

Are they shorter than usual? :)

I guess they're proportional to the rest of me, but I *am* rather petite to begin with. Add to that QoH weighs around 100 pounds more than me, so it's difficult just *trying* to get close enough to get an arm around her neck.

Ah. I bet you give some powerful hugs. ;)

Yep. ;P

I started doing another variety of weight lifting to make my arms more powerful. I lay on my back and extend my arms straight back while holding a dumbbell and lift the weight in an arcing motion to my stomach and back again while keeping my arms straight. I do this slooooowly so I don't hurt my shoulders. It's good for a spot in the rear deltoid near the arm pit. I'm a bit sore today from doing a couple hundred of those last night. :/

BTW, I *might* be doing another MMA/martial arts post soon. I read a blog post at a blog that I used to read talking about a-hole Rousey shooting her stupid-ass mouth off about being able to beat Cain Velasquez who is the men's HEAVYWEIGHT Champion. That chick is so mental it isn't even funny.

But to the point, reading the comments at that blog reminded me why I stopped reading over there--too many chauvinistic/misogynistic assholes in the comments having a circle jerk. Those idiots couldn't get laid in a whorehouse with a fistful of hundreds, I'd bet. No doubt why they hate women.

Anyway, a couple things got me set off, mainly the a-hole blogger who put out a blanket statement that 'men are better than women'. It just now came to me why that sets me off so bad--my father made that statement to me when I was a kid.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a total realist when it comes to knowing that men are physically stronger than women. There is no dispute there. And in a fight with rules a man is going to win every time.

Oh, Wing Chun was brought up, which happens to be my specialty, so I might *just* know something about that. Wing Chun is not a sport. It's brutally efficient self defense. So I'd like to know from all these "studs", how well do you think you'd stand up to a swift kick in the nuts and some nice eye gouges? These here long thumb nails of mine are pretty good for scooping out eyeballs! ;P

Literally? Seriously? I'd feel more than a bit sore if I did that. I probably wouldn't be able to lift my arms for a couple of days.

I'm sure she'll get what's coming to her. ;)

Yes! I always do a couple hundred reps(at least)on whatever particular exercise I'm doing. Anyway, it wasn't *that* bad. I was only using a 5 pound dumbbell(which is the lightest one I have)so I wouldn't hurt myself.

I probably wouldn't be able to lift my arms for a couple of days.

I take it you don't do much exercising? ;P

I'm sure she'll get what's coming to her. ;)

Yeah, especially if she'd woman-up and fight Cris Cyborg! Who BTW was ringside during one of the fights I watched last night. She said it's impossible for her to come down to 135 pounds but she would love to fight Rousey at 140.(Although I don't know how she would do that. She looks really gaunt when she fights at 145.) Rousey will *never* do it IMO. Cyborg would beat her face in so badly that she'd never be able to do another Maxim spread again! LOLOL

And who would want to, really? :)

They would! ;P

Nah, I use my pinkies or index fingers for that! ;D

I have a serious cold and a birthday party to go to tomorrow. I'm sneezing my ass off.

:O Sorry to hear that. I hope you are feeling better soon. Maybe a nice cold medicine with some pseudo-ephedrine in it and a nice steaming bowl of chicken soup would help? Anyway, feel better and don't let those kiddies give ya any more germs! :::hugs:::

Just the irregular walkies (okay, that sounds weird :P). Swinging about 2.5 kilo weighing pieces of iron a couple hundred times is a little beyond my abilities. It's impressive.

I've decided not to go to their party. I did want to go but being as sick as I am I just don't feel up to it. I wouldn't have a very good time. I sent my presents (actually just money in an envelope and a nice birthday card) along with my parents (who are apparently immune to this version of the common cold).

Seriously? Your a big guy! 2.5 kilos isn't much. For my other arm/shoulder exercises I do 10 pounds usually. Sometimes 20 pounds. Sadly, I don't have 15 pound ones...I could really use that middling weight.

Are you trying to maintain that IT physique? ;P

What sort of festivities/activities were planned for the party? Are you missing out on much? Maybe the parentals can bring ya back a bit of cake. :)

PS. How are you doing? :)

Okay I guess. I took the mower out yesterday to do the lawn(not that it needed it that bad, but QoH was bitching that it looked bad, which it really didn't)and put some gas in it and started it up and then it cut out after a few seconds. Then when I tried to restart it, it would start up and then cut out immediately. Ugh.

So, I tried the usual suspects--air filter, spark plug, gas reservoir thingy. Filter was dirty but I don't think it was bad enough to not start the mower but I switched it out with another one I had which was used but I had cleaned. Then I replaced the plug although the one that was in there was probably okay. Neither of those things helped so I had to take the mower apart *yet again* because there was probably crud in the fuel line(*correct answer*).

Yep, crud in the fuel(which was probably stale to boot. After I drained it out, I put everything back together and some fresh fuel in and it started right up. I did the front part of the yard and as it was very hot, I got tired and was ready to keel over but I pushed myself to finish the whole of the front before I came in for a break. After my break, it was getting dark so I decided to leave the back yard for today(which I finished in only 30 minutes). It's hot again today. I still have to go back out and tidy a few things with the weed whacker then I'll be done.

BTW, are you feeling any better?

1. Don't know but my guess is nothing much was organized.
2. Going by past experiences, probably not.
3. They could have but they didn't. Sick people don get to eat cake. It was just apple strudel anyway.

Seems odd. I got the impression that you used that machine fairly regularly.

Heh. I was thinking that as I was typing it...sweets aren't good for sick peeps, they inhibit the immune system...but what the hey!

I do. But somehow one of the plastic fuel cans got some crap and residue in it and apparently some got into the mower. I'll have to see if I can filter what's left in that particular can.

Have you had any interesting dreams lately?

I had a memorable one a week or so ago. It seemed like it took place near a beach. Then I was riding in the back of a jeep. There was a guy driving and 2 other chicks IIRC. The dude was driving on a narrow road that had high sandstone colored stone walls on each side. The dude was driving way too fast for a road that narrow and I was in the very back of the jeep standing up holding onto the roll bar. The jeep was clipping the walls whenever there was a curve as the guy was driving like a bat out of hell and I had to hold on pretty tightly and also duck some tree branches as there were also trees along the road.

Eventually, we got to out destination that appeared to be some kind of place with a reception room for parties. We went into a waiting area and then a woman came and said that we could go into the dining area and get out stuff ready. I thought that was strange. Since when are guests required to do that? That should be done by employees. Anyway, that's all I remember of that.

And have you had any memorable ones?
