Great Fight

Miesha Tate and Cat Zingano

I had totally forgotten that The Ultimate Fighter season finale was on Saturday night because I was distracted by all the drama with the water heater.  By the time I got to park myself in front of the TV and do a bit of channel surfing, I had already missed the first hour.  I turned it on just in time for the best fight of the night, though!

When I flipped over to the correct channel, Miesha Tate was doing her walk-up to some annoying cutesy song. Then when she got in the ring she was doing some cutesy dance and acting a bit too cocky for my taste.  They showed her stats and her record of 13-3 which was not too bad.  Then they panned over to Cat Zingano who was already in the ring.  She looked like she was all business.  Then they showed her record--7-0.  Well then.  I thought to myself, 'I hope she knocks that chick out!'

First round starts and Tate comes charging toward Zingano, not even touching gloves and digging right in with punches and then a take-down.  Much of the round was spent on the ground with great displays of wrestling and jiu jitsu.  It was a very exciting first round in which Tate got the edge.

The second round was much like the first.  Tate came out strong again and took Zingano to the mat.  But after Tate attempted an arm bar and heel hook, Zingano managed to escape both and then gained the top position and then began to pound the crap out of Tate.  Zingano won this round, in my opinion, due to her dominating the second half of this round.

In the third round, Zingano came out swinging hard.  She landed a take down and pounded Tate with some very heavy blows and elbows.  Tate managed to get back to her feet but Zingano was relentless with the punches and some very accurate knee strikes.  After one particularly vicious knee, the ref stepped in and stopped the fight.

This fight, in my opinion, was the best fight of the night.  Before I watched this fight, I had never heard of these two ladies before.  Now I heard that the winner, Zingano, is going to be one of the coaches on the next TUF coaching against Ronda Rousey.  That should be interesting.  I'd like to see Zingano beat Rousey.  I'm sick of seeing her (Rousey) win every fight by arm bar.

Excellent commentary. I think. I haven't been able to track down a video of the actual fight. Got a link?

How do these women handle getting beat up like that? It all sounds so damn painful. They must be covered in bruises the next day.

It was an excellent fight--non-stop action. Just the way I like it!

I'll see if I can find a link. Unfortunately, the UFC has a hissy if anyone posts any of their fights on YouTube and once discovered, they are immediately taken down.

Okay, I think I got one here.

IDK, when I did martial arts I *hated* getting hit in the face or head. I could take a body shot pretty well, though. Since we did iron palm and iron body training I guess it lessened the impact.

They must be covered in bruises the next day.

Yep. And for days afterward.

I've always had fantasies of being in a pro fight but I don't want to have my face re-arranged! ;P I've already had my nose broken once while sparring with someone who weighed at least 50 kilos more than me. I always think of that when I start having my fantasies. :/

I really wanted to see Cris "Cyborg" Santos fight Ronda Rousey but Cyborg is taller and heavier than Rousey and even after cutting as much weight as possible, she's still about 5 kilos too heavy to fight Rousey.

You should Google "Cyborg Santos chokes out Aaron Tru". She had him out within seconds. It made me LOL.

Thanks for the link. Interesting fight.

Whoa! If she had choked him any longer I doubt he'd have woken up again. Those eyes rolling up :/

You're welcome.

I have never been choked out myself, but I've been told that it is a rather peaceful experience FWIW. ;)

One time at work, I was rough-housing with a Brazilian co-worker who was also into MMA. She got me from behind and slapped on a rear naked choke. We were in a hallway where chairs and tables were stacked up. My first inclination was to just flip her over my head and do a body slam, but the quarters were too tight and I didn't want to knock stuff over in the process and make a commotion because clients were on the other side of the wall and we'd likely get into trouble for doing MMA at work. So I was forced to tap out... :( and it wasn't even a tight hold. Discretion is supposed to be the better part of valor or some such nonsense.

I will grant a prize to anyone who can guess my nickname during my martial arts days. :)

I am feeling generous and will give a clue: the wife of a famous martial artist.

Bruce lee's wife Linda Emery? Jackie Chan's wife Lin Feng-jiao? One of Chuck Norris's wives? One of Steven Seagal's wives?

Goku's wife Chi-chi?

There are too many...

Oh, Arekino, you did not get my riddle! LOL I guess I'll be merciful and just tell you. It was "Mrs. Lee"!

Ah, well...no prize for you! ;P

Oh, well... I guess Mrs. Lee makes sense.

Hey, I had a weird thing happen to me yesterday. I took a long walk in the afternoon (I usually do that in the morning) and afterwards I was pretty tired. So I ate a banana, drank some water and went to read a book on my bed. After a few pages I started feeling so tired I decided to take a nap.

I think that during my nap my blood sugar level must have dropped to below safe levels because I got a *little* bit delirious. It's not like I started seeing things but my mind was going weird places. I was half asleep and one second I felt like I was nothing, a speck of dust and then I seemed to know the secrets of the universe, then, the next moment I as convinced I was about to die. It went on like that for I don't know how long until I decided to get up and stumble down the two flights of stairs from the attic to the ground floor.

I sat down on a chair next to the dinner table and stuffed a bunch of sugar pills in my mouth. Then I either fell asleep or I past out. When I woke up it was time to eat dinner. I felt a lot better after that but still felt cold for the rest of the evening. I'm pretty sure that was the worst hypo I've ever had. I've never used drugs but this thing just felt unreal.

Anyway, how was your day?

My mother's endocrinologist would give you a lecture if she heard about you eating a banana...those tend to spike your blood sugar and then you get that sudden drop. Sounds like the electrolytes and brain chemicals were having a riot!

Not that I'd want to see any harm come to you, but I wonder what it would be like to see you hallucinating. Sooooo, did you learn any secrets?

I've had low blood sugar only a few times. Once, I passed out stone cold, other times I certainly felt very wonky.

Were you passed out at the dinner table? What did your old peeps do? Did they just leave you there asleep? Didn't they think it unusual? You need to be careful, Arekino! I will be very upset if something happens to you!
:::wags finger:::

Anyway, how was your day?

Mostly uneventful. I did a little Pilates, then had breakfast. I cleaned and organized one of the cabinets in the laundry room. (I gave the laundry room a thorough cleaning and rearranged the cabinets in the past few days.) I've had two mugs of tea--one herbal and one regular. I've done some reading. I'll probable clean my bathroom later.

Something vague about meta-gods of meta-universes and how we're all one with the omniverse... or something.

Did they just leave you there asleep?

Yes. I did talk to them before I lost consciousness. My mother made me check my blood sugar so I knew how low it was.

I've done some reading.

Anything good?

Methinks you've been reading too much sci-fi...or perhaps Hinduism or Buddhism. Or else it was the banana. Yeah, gotta be the banana. Ya gotta watch out for them bananas! ;P

Anything good?

Not really. Just the magazine that my mother's insurance plan puts out. It was mostly crap. Supposed to be about healthy living. How anyone could make a whole magazine of mostly useless info is beyond me.

Are you feeling any better BTW? Does the tea help?

I feel fabulous today. The first couple days of drinking the tea you get a bit of a mild headache--probably caffeine withdrawal. I certainly have a decreased appetite and no cravings for crap.

I'm determined this time to clean up my eating habits. That's not an easy task with the old woman. She likes to buy crap that she shouldn't be eating and which I don't want to eat.

I have been watching a program kinda regularly in which they link mycotoxins(fungus/yeast poisons) to many diseases. The scientific research seems to really support the hypothesis. I did a bit of an experiment with my mother going by what they said on this program and her symptoms cleared up!

If I could just get her to do the right thing nutritionally and exercise wise, she could probably lessen most of her health problems.

Which got me thinking about your diabetic situation and the causation. I know that people are genetically predisposed to get diabetes but it seems reasonable that perhaps something external could trigger its onset.

I did a little research on the web and it has been shown in tests with lab rats that mycotoxins can trigger type 1 diabetes. Interesting.

Now, my analytical mind/Oriental medicine interest have kicked into overdrive.

Would you mind if I asked you some questions about your life at the time when you first developed your diabetes? I am curious if there were any external or environmental factors that could have triggered it or maybe certain foods.

One of my doctors said that I had diabetes (type 1) from birth. It was diagnosed by another doctor around 2001 when it got really bad.

Good to hear you're feelin' fabulous. :) What kind of crap does your mother feed you then? Or is she the only one eating crap?

Hmm, so you never showed any symptoms when you were a kid or up until 2001? That seems strange.

Or is she the only one eating crap?

She likes to buy Klondike ice cream sandwiches, coconut ice cream bars, chocolate and coconut ice cream bars, Oreos, strawberry marshmallows, donuts, cake mixes etc--all of which she shouldn't have.

I don't want to buy or eat that crap but if it's in the house the temptation is too great. For example, the ice cream thingies come in a six pack--I'll eat one and my mother will eat the other five.

Then there's all the canned food. She's paranoid about food shortages and other such bullshit so she buys all this canned crap.

This weeks' Doctor Who episode was rather good BTW.

I have set the timer on the Dish. :)

Not really. It's known to be a disease that sneaks up on you. AFAIK it's an autoimmune sickness.

Yeah, that sucks.

That's handy. So you have a satellite dish?
