I had no idea this was a thing...

 http://blog.cnbeyer.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/original.jpg

...and that there was a word for it--marginalia.  So it turns out that the butt trumpet from Monty Python and the Holy Grail was not an original idea.  I did know that those guys--especially Terry Jones--were history buffs and liked to reference historical oddities, though.

Those monks who had to hand copy all those manuscripts sure could be a bunch of dirty buggers.  LOL

Have you ever been to a pub?

Of course. The first time I ever went to one was when I was a teen and my paternal unit took me to this skeevy one on skid row that he went to. It was the most bare-bones dive I've ever seen. Basically just a counter and some stools and a few elderly drunks as patrons. QoH had a fit when she found out he took me down there. LOL That was one of many times I learned that if paternal unit likes something then IRL it actually sucks.

One of the better places that I've been to was NMB Ale House, although I guess it isn't being managed as well as it used to be because it was featured in the 'dirty dining' segment of the news a few weeks ago. That's a shame because it used to be pretty good.

And then there was the Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Miami. It's overpriced but the last time I was there (like a decade ago ;P) the memorabilia was still cool and the bartender on duty at the time mixed pretty decent drinks.

And then there were a couple in downtown Ft Lauderdale since I used to work up there.

Well, new OUAT was on tonight. Luckily they played the last episode that I had missed because of work. The new ep was not too terrible. Lots of EQ and one kinda suggestive scene. :) I seriously LOL'd at the line she had immediately after. And LP is such an amazing actress. So many feels as the kids say. :)

I'm not going to pass judgement yet because of one decent episode. This is OUAT after all. They don't have a very good track record with consistency. But this one was really good. Since they are in hell they are doing cameos of a lot of the peeps who were killed off. The scenes with Regina and Cora and Regina and Henry Sr were especially good, and those actors are just amazing. Lana is superb. She needs all the awards and Barbara Hershey just makes your skin crawl she's so creepy as Cora. Even Tony Perez got a lot of screen time as Henry Sr and was very good.

Probably. But I keep it turned off most of the time. A piece of paper and pen would suffice, though. Of course the only series I watch is OUAT. The other ones I've tried I've lost interest in, although on SyFy they had a couple previews for new shows starting in April that looked interesting. One was called Wynonna Earp. We shall see. :)

Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

I never watched that show. I have a sorta "lost decade" as far as TV viewing. I was working too much from about 1995-2005 to get into many series with the exceptions of Farscape, Babylon 5, and X-Files. :)

I don't know. What makes a class trip senior? When I was about 16 there was the option to go to Paris with my class. I didn't go. I really didn't like my classmates and wasn't looking forward to going on a trip with them.

Why do yo ask?

I was just wondering what the school experience was like over there compared to here and if you guys did class trips and things like that. How was yours funded? For our senior trip (which was the big out of town class trip that was supposed to be planned since junior year of hs) we weren't allowed to fund raise during junior year like other previous senior classes were allowed, so we had to settle for 4 days at Disney World. Originally we were supposed to go to Washington DC and New York but we could not raise enough money for that as we only had one school year to do it in. :/ Some other classes who had parents with clout were allowed to go to England and another to Colorado to go skiing.

I don't remember. In the end, the parents, I guess. We had short class trips to zoos and museums and once to the Efteling pretty much every year. When I was 12 we went to Zeeland for a week. This was the last year in elementary school.

we had to settle for 4 days at Disney World.

You "settled" for Disney World? Hah. First World Problems. :P

We did that in elementary school as well. We went to the Miami Metro Zoo (which is waaaaaay the hell down in deepest Dade County) as well as Everglades National Park (which is even further south than the zoo, felt like we were traveling forever to get there, that happened in HS though) and local county parks and museums. And there was the infamous trip to Disney that happened in 1st or 2nd grade.

You "settled" for Disney World? Hah. First World Problems. :P

This is more of a Florida problem than a first world problem. Most kids from Florida have already been to Disney at least half a dozen times before they reach their senior year of HS, so it's nothing new. (Plus we'd already done the Grad Night thing that they used to do for jr and sr years.) The best part was being able to do it without parental units. The "chaperones" basically let us do whatever we wanted unattended. We had Florida resident park-hopper season passes so we could go from one park to the others each day. It was nice to have the freedom.

It would have been nice to have done Busch Gardens, but I guess the Disney trip got the most entertainment value for the least amount of travel as they had 3 parks open at the time (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and MGM Studios).

I'm kinda done with those places, but I wouldn't mind seeing the Harry Potter thing up there.

Whaaaaat? You get discounts just for living in Florida? Is this some kind of charity from people who feel sorry for Floridians? ;)

Yep! It's one of the perks of being a citizen of Florida. We get discounts on all the big attractions. AAA is an auto club that a lot of peeps belong to. It's mainly for if your car breaks down or you have a dead battery they send someone out to help, but they also act as a travel agency and a lot of attractions will give you a discount if you are a AAA member. Like for example, I used to get that discount when I used to go to hockey, like 50% off IIRC.

I looked into any specials that they might be having and there's one for Florida residents for a 3 day on site stay at Universal. I think it came out to around $75 per day for both the park and hotel, so it's hard to beat that. Unfortunately they now require each ticket holder to show Florida ID. I guess lots of peeps were buying resident discounted tickets and giving them to their out of state friends and family. ;P

What I need is for both parental units to croak. Then I would not having anyone to constantly put me down, or threaten me, or tell me what a disappointment I am or tell me I'm a piece of shit, or that I am so worthless that working at IHOP is good enough for me. Are you looking for a smack? Could you come a bit closer? ;)

If I was going to apply for a waitressing job in a restaurant, it certainly wouldn't be one as gross and low end as IHOP. Their prices are so low that the tips would be shit. It would make more sense to work at a place where the prices were higher so that even at the low end of tipping (15%) I'd at least make some money. I find the suggestion of working at IHOP incredibly offensive. The place is a shit hole and the food sucks. I've literally worked for millionaires and billionaires in the finest of settings serving the best food money can buy and making massive tips. I'm not going to start slumming it now.

Stupid North Sea! ::shakes fist:: Ya know, the ocean here gets nice and warm during the summer. It's almost like bath water. :)

How about yours?

Mostly boring. Since Florida is ass backwards, the trees here start dropping their leaves in the "spring" and that inconvenience has begun. I raked leaves in the back yard yesterday and then again today. Then QoH made some snide remark about me "always laying on my ass" and wanted me to mow the yard even though it hasn't rained in god knows when and all the weeds and grass are quite brown. So I mowed anyway. It only took me like an hour since there wasn't much to mow. That has to be a speed record. :) Then I watched the new OUAT which was not horrible but not the most exciting episode.

Anyway, this thingy has been going around(maybe you'd like a go, too? ;P):

When I was a kid sometimes we would get cool temps here as late as May. And sure, it can get dreary as he'll here during the rainy season (summer). Most peeps think Florida has nice weather all the time but that is not true. It's only nice from January - March usually. Summers are usually unbearably hot and humid with lots of rain. It doest get less humid until November usually.

Why? You don't seem that introverted to me BTW.

My introversion started during adolescence, I think. I was not that introverted as a child. At least, that's how I remember it. Although I WAS always a very sensitive, easily hurt kid.

I've caught a cold. Either that or there's more pollen in the air because of Springtime. It's probably a cold.

I'm an ISTP on the Myers-Briggs thingy. But more to the point, am I *really* that introverted or was it as a result of being emotionally beaten down by QoH. I know I'm not naturally a very outgoing/life of the party type of person, and I used to have debilitating social anxiety, but that was as a result of QoH and her PD behaviors. I can be friendly when I want to be. If I like someone I can be very chatty. IDK, sometimes I feel Jekyll/Hyde. Sometimes I feel introverted and sometimes I don't. ;)

I was not that introverted as a child.

^ This. I think it was a combo of QoH's control and of going to a very strict private school where we were very much controlled and not allowed to do anything or even act like normal kids. Even the littlest things we punished.

I WAS always a very sensitive, easily hurt kid.

Yes, me too. But I kinda developed a tough-girl persona to use as armor.

The advocaat is similar to eggnog, yes? Except it's pre-spiked. ;D Sounds yummy. :)

No. I am the exact opposite. Drinking just makes me quieter.

It used to.

That's like 20% alcohol, so I guess that's enough to kill any critters. ;P

In other news, I'm kinda pissed off about my whole situation, especially the fucked up environment that I was raised in. And I'm pissed off at paternal unit for divorcing QoH and basically escaping and leaving me stuck to deal with a crazy woman. I'm pissed that I slid into a surrogate spouse position without my consent. I'm pissed that the best years of my life were stolen from me. I'm pissed off that I was so brainwashed/conditioned to just accept the situation as my normal and that I went along with it and allowed it to happen. I'm just really pissed because I feel like I'm stuck with no means of escape. All my peers were allowed to grow naturally and achieve each developmental stage and go on and live a normal life, get married, have kids, career, etc, and here I sit stuck in a hellacious purgatory. It sucks. :/

In other QoH related news not news, she really sucks at driving. Today while going to different stores, she was having trouble getting into a tight parking spot. And she can't follow directions to save her life. She just keeps doing the same thing that's not working over and over. It got to the point that I had to get out of the vehicle to direct and even then she can't follow directions. I tell her to turn her wheel to the left and what does she do? Turn it hard to the right until it won't turn any more. ::facepalm:: She's always been a shit driver but she's getting worse as she gets older and is the type who will never admit it. Not much to report here. QoH was at it again trying to shame me over a TV show that I was watching. Extreme Weight Loss or something like that. It was an ep where this 20 y/o blonde girl was over 300 pounds and had to lose like 150 lbs. QoH is very focused on peeps external appearances and always has been. It's kinda obsessive. Anyway she keeps commenting on what a pretty face the girl has and it's a shame she let herself get so fat. Then QoH gets a bug up her ass that the show is exploiting the girl by making her undress down to her bra and shorts for the whole world to see. I would not agree with that assessment. I said no one forced her to go on that show that she chose to do it. QoH started in with calling me heartless and having no empathy. Ha! Ironic that a narc wold project that adjective! I wouldn't back down and asked her why she had to create an issue to attack me over. I don't remember what her lame ass reply was. I wasn't changing my opinion. The girl got free exercise equipment, a trip to Hawaii, a trip to Las Vegas, free skin removal surgery, and a $50,000 gift card to Walmart. I don't see how she was exploited. Each party involved got something from the deal. She lost a butt ton of weight and the TV show got a good episode. How am I wrong here?

You're probably not wrong. I don't know that girl or what's she's like on the inside. I don't know what part of herself she had to give up in order to lose that weight and get that stuff. Maybe it was false pride or maybe an incessant voice that told her she'd never lose that weight. If that's the case than good riddance. I guess we can only hope she gained more than he lost.

Do you do anything with Easter BTW? I'm sure you must have told me last year but I forgot. :)

Does she harp on specific things like someone having small feet, or large or small ears, or the shape of someone's nose for example? I think it's abnormal to carry on to the extent QoH does. I mean, I notice things about people but don't feel the need to point it out, and certainly not harp on endlessly about it.

I wonder what other options she had though.

IDK. Getting a personal trainer and nutritionist is very expensive. Plus she had family issues. Her bio-dad was a drug addict and never there for her when she was growing up, so she had a lot of psychological issues because of that. IIRC the show sent her to a therapist to work though those issues. Plus she had verbal and emotional abuse from her mother and siblings. Mother seemed PD. Even after they had the house rigged up with cameras the idiots would abuse her and call her names whenever she would attempt to work-out on the machines that were provided for her. And they were also dicks when it came to all the junk food and pasta and crap that they would bring into the house. They showed very little regard for her in that area. Like they had some kind of holiday meal where they had several pasta dishes and donuts and didn't have anything healthy for her except for a small crudite platter and then were rude like 'here, eat this' while everyone else is enjoying the calorie-heavy foods.

IMO I think doing the show was a good thing for her. I don't know how she would have afforded the professional help on her own as she was only 20 y/o with few resources. Also the trainer could see that the family was a major part of the problem and could offer moral support and validation. The mother seemed very controlling and the trainer helped the girl break free from that situation and helped her get her driver's license and helped her to move out and into a friend's house. Once she was away from the abuse she started to thrive and really do well with the weight loss program.

Do you do anything with Easter BTW?

Nope, not now. QoH used to go all out when I was a small child, like dying Easter eggs, making a bunny cake, having a big Easter basket with lots of crap in it, etc. Haven't done any of that since I was maybe 8 y/o. QoH *did* boil some eggs and mentioned something about coloring them, but I gave her the side-eye and asked why the hell she wanted to go through all that? ;)

Does she harp on specific things

Mostly just when people are fat. And she doesn't harp about it but she does like to voice her disapproval.

Wise move.

Once she was away from the abuse she started to thrive

Were you a bit jealous of her? I can imagine you might have been.

asked why the hell she wanted to go through all that?

I'm sure you had a good reason but I have to ask, why did you ask her that?

What aggravates me is the hypocrisy. When I was a kid if I had said something about someone's appearance, she would have scolded me and said that it wasn't nice to say that. In school, it probably would have been punished more severely. And yet she seems to have forgotten social graces that I learned as a child. Also, she has no right to point out anyone's appearance. She should point that laser focus on herself.

I was a bit jealous, especially that she had a friend who was willing to let her move in rent free until she got her life sorted out. I don't have anyone to do that for me. I'm stuck here. :/

I asked because it seemed like a waste of time to go through all of that and for what purpose? There are no kids here for an Easter egg hunt and I'm certainly not going to do that. I'm almost 40 for Christ's sake (no pun intended ;) ). I did ask her if she was going to go hide them. ;) I don't recall what her answer was but she was annoyed with my sarcasm. ;D

Maybe she actually has forgotten them? Plus people can change their mind over time. Does she still scold you for making remarks about appearance?

I don't recall what her answer was but she was annoyed with my sarcasm.

And you enjoyed her being annoyed. You hurt her without evidence that she intended to hurt you. I'm not sure that's wise considering how frightening her behaviour towards you can be.

No, because remarking on appearance isn't my thing. Only if it's something quite spectacular (like the 600+ pound woman waddling out of KFC) will I even mention it.

And you enjoyed her being annoyed.

Not really. It just sorta slipped out as a follow up to my thinking it a waste of time to color eggs. Like, 'you're coloring them. Are you going to hide them, too?' I tend to be naturally sarcastic. She doesn't like me anyway, so it was par for the course.

You hurt her without evidence that she intended to hurt you.

It wasn't about that at all. ^See above answer.

Anyway, she says all sorts of not-so-nice things to me throughout the day so anything I say that she doesn't like doesn't even begin to make a dent in the hurtful statement deficit.

I'm not sure that's wise considering how frightening her behaviour towards you can be.

What's the worst thing that could happen? It's highly unlikely that either one of us would call the popo should there be a physical altercation, and if that happened again, it just might be the catalyst for me to finally GTFO of here.

Oh, come on. You enjoyed it a little bit. ;P

You know you can really only be sarcastic from a position of superiority, right? So if you're naturally sarcastic then that means you feel naturally superior. :)

the hurtful statement deficit

You're keeping score then?

What's the worst thing that could happen?

Well, hopefully nothing that would leave permanent scarring.

it just might be the catalyst for me to finally GTFO of here.

More like the catalyst for her to finally GTFO of there. ;)

Maybe after the fact.

I had never thought about it like that. It's an ingrained behavior. I blame watching too much Roseanne back in the day. Now it's like second nature. :)

You're keeping score then?

I notice.

In other news, I had been craving a pizza for several days, but due to QoH always being firmly plunked down in the kitchen, I could not get in there to do it in peace. I just can't stand trying to cook in there while she's there because she will drive me mental with her endless chatter and bitching about the govt and all her other favorite topics that she bitches about. And then there is always the micromanaging. She cannot leave me be to do whatever it is I'm trying to do without her constant input.

So this morning a miracle occurred. She was in her bedroom when I got up so I decided to jump on the chance. About an hour after I had been prepping everything she came down to the kitchen, but by then I had already gotten the pizza dough made and stretched out onto 2 baking sheets. All I had left to do was put the sauce and toppings on. I used some Bertoli Portobello Marinara sauce and jazzed it up with oregano, Parmesan cheese, and garlic to make it taste like pizza sauce, then topped it with Provolone cheese (which tastes much like mozzarella) and pepperoni. QoH likes onion on her pizza so I chopped up half a large onion to put on hers.

Anyway, ever the ingrate, she complained that I put the onion under the cheese instead of on the top. I got annoyed because she had to find something to complain about. What a nitpicky thing. I told her that usually when someone goes out of their way to make a pizza with the topping that the other person likes, it's polite to say 'thank you' instead of finding fault. She didn't like that and started arguing but I have no idea what she said as I walked away and went to my room as I didn't care to hear whatever she was saying.

IMO the pizza turned out very well and was quite delicious. I ate half of mine today and will probably save the other half for tomorrow. :) I had experimented with making the dough with bread flour instead of regular flour. It seemed to make it softer. Not bad just different. :)

Hey, if you don't like it, don't eat it, is what I would have said. :)

bread flour instead of regular flour

What's the difference?

Bread flour has more gluten than regular flour. It's supposed to make a better bread.

BTW, our favorite Scottish lass is back with a new blog. Its:

www.voicefromtheborderlands.com

I think she'd be thrilled if you went over and said hello. :)

Hm. I closed off that part of my internet-life. She's an interesting blog writer but she keeps people waiting and wondering too long. I'm sure she'll find an audience.

Looks like Spring has arrived for certain this time. I'm even getting my jacket out of storage.
