It Came From The 80's

^This...

...came from shit like this:

I got to thinking about the whole rainbows and unicorns thing the other day when QoH was watching one of her programs.  The one very sarcastic smartass on the talk show had a coffee mug of a unicorn shitting a rainbow.  I think the guy is a few years older than me.  I think this whole thing is smartasses of my generation being...well, smartasses.  For a generation that was little kids at a relatively happy time (the 80's), we sure did turn into a sarcastic bunch of smartasses!  ;P

Anyway, I think it's something in our collective consciences.  That there sticker album up there^?  Yeah, I have the very same one *still* in my possession along with the unicorns and Gremlins stickers. (I also have some Transformers ones.)  Stickers and rainbows and unicorns were the shizzle.  It was the era of Rainbow Brite, Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears, My Little Pony, etc.  All happy bright rainbow kinda shit.  I don't know how rainbows and unicorns came to be gay symbols.  Maybe from co-opting the old slang meaning of the word "gay" as in 'that stuff was the gayest stuff ever'?  IDK

And R.I.P. David Bowie.  He'll always be the Goblin King to me.

Yes, yes you did. :P

Did you have a collection? I did have stickers (no rainbows or unicorns) as a kid. I used to stick them on outside of the door of the wall closet in my bedroom. Must have been hell to remove them when we moved out of that house.

I don't know how rainbows and unicorns came to be gay symbols.

I always assumed the rainbows had something to do with the LGBT community being made up of all the colors of the rainbow WRT sexual orientation. And unicorns, well, there's the horn as a fertility symbol IIRC.

He'll always be the Goblin King to me.

Yeah, sucks that he died. He's had a musical career about as long as I am old. Hard to imagine the 70's and 80's without his music. Not that I always understood what he was singing about.

This post went in a whole 'nother direction than I originally intended. It was supposed to be about how sticker collecting was a big thing when I was a kid. And, yes, I had quite a collection. I had 2 whole albums worth + the lazer ones. I still have them around here somewhere although I could only find the lazer album. The teachers at school used to put them on our assignments if we did well or give them like a prize. I also used to put them on my folders and such. And I even had some badass racing ones on my bike. ;P

It's just too bad that I can't wear rainbow type stuff from my childhood in a sarcastic manner without it being misconstrued. I like those barfing and shitting unicorns. I think they're hilarious. ;P

When I was a kid I was too young to appreciate Bowie's music. I liked him as the Goblin King and that's probably the first time I really was aware of him. He really was groundbreaking and influential in his music.

Sarcasm is kinda like an inside joke, it needs the audience to be aware of a certain context. What would you want to be saying by wearing such colorful attire?

I liked him as the Goblin King

Well, me too. I especially like that juggling trick that he pretended to do. The guy who helped him pull that trick off was a pioneer in contact juggling. "The closest thing to real magic," I believe is how Bowie put it in an interview.
Musically, I think "Let's Dance" stands out the most for me. His participation in Live Aid was also quite memorable BTW.

I thought it would be funny for someone as cynical and grouchy as me to wear something like a Care Bears t-shirt. ;P

I like that one, too. Last night for 1 hour the Sirius Classic Alternative channel played all songs of different artists doing covers or Bowie's songs. I've always like Bauhaus' version of Ziggy Stardust. And Queen and Bowie doing Under Pressure. :)

Well, my paternal unit is back to his nonsense. Even though I made it abundantly clear that I do not want to be involved with his house-purchasing fiasco, he is once again leaving messages on my phone making demands of me that I need to come and sign insurance papers. He'll willingly throw money around to his SiL and anyone else who comes asking and go and buy the next-door neighbor's overpriced house, but he won't willingly give me a thin dime. I wasted the best years of my life working my ass off to pay the mortgage on the house I'm in now when he and QoH were getting divorced and he stopped paying all the bills. That was *my* money that paid for all those bills thereby saving his credit rating and he walks away debt free. Fuck him. Why should I get involved? Who the fuck does he think he is to make demands or have expectations of me?

I've never seen you be cynical and grouchy. Compared to those Care Bears anyone will seem a grouch. It's so unrealistic. IIRC the Care Bears got a lot of criticism back in the day. Some people found it too lovey-dovey apparently.

And Queen and Bowie doing Under Pressure.

Yeah, I was (and still am) a fan of Queen as well so when they made that song together I was pleasantly surprised.

That was *my* money that paid for all those bills

So the house should legally belong to you then? At least in part?

That's because you've never actually seen me in person. ;P But it's usually QoH related. The smartassedness is a permanent feature, though. ;D

I didn't care for most that kind of stuff when I was a kid. All my toys were Star Wars, GI Joe, Transformers, etc. I didn't like that fluffy crap. QoH got caught up in the Cabbage Patch craze (keeping up appearances) by buying me a bunch of those things when I hated dolls. I still have them all stored away, most in new condition. I could probably sell them for some moolah. ;P

BTW, I was searching for my sticker books when I investigated a box on the top shelf of my bedroom closet. I found the 80's mother load in there! The mystery of what happened to my Jabba the Hutt figure has been solved! I also found a bunch of Pac Man figurines and some Transformers ones, plus a Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman Barbie doll.

So the house should legally belong to you then? At least in part?

In a just world, yes. But I have no legal documentation proving it.

Hey, have you heard about this new show on MTV called The Shannara Chronicles? I watched the 1st 2 episodes. It's not terrible plus Gimli and Crixus are in it (John Rhys-Davies and Manu Bennett). ;P

Also watched the American Horror Story S5 finale last night. IMO that was the best season so far and the soundtrack was def the best.

And RIP Alan Rickman. Also died of cancer at age 69. Jeez, first Lemmy, then Bowie, now Rickman. :(

Those dolls are probably worth a decent amount of money to collectors. Is the WW barbie one any one of these?

ave you heard about this new show on MTV called The Shannara Chronicles?

I don't think I've watched anything on MTV in months, if not longer. Haven't heard of the Shannara Chronicles either.

It's been an awful beginning of 2016 so far.

None of them are in their original boxes (those were thrown away a looooong time ago), but I was never rough with my toys so they are all in very good condition. BTW, I *did* find 4 Star Trek TNG Klingon figurines still in the box (never opened). One is a Worf in a pirate outfit. ;P

The WW Barbie I have is either the 1978 or 1979 version with the cloth outfit. No box and she's missing her tiara thingy. The plastic stand was stamped 1976. There didn't seem to be a date on the doll itself. She's not in the best condition from baking at the top of my closet for all those years when the house didn't have AC, but she's still in decent shape. I'm sure someone would buy it.

BTW, I have just about every one of the original Star Wars figurines ever made. ;P

I don't know what those are worth. The pirate Worf is apparently about 10 bucks worth.

Did you buy those yourself? I'm sure those most be valuable, to collectors at least. Some people take the completionist thing pretty far.

Well, considering that I paid about $4 each for them(the receipt was still in the bag), that's not too bad.

Did you buy those yourself?

Nope. They were Christmas and birthday presents mainly. I do remember one time being in a JC Penney or something and they had all the figurines on sale for like 50 cents and QoH let me get whichever ones I didn't already have.

I used to have 2 of the Return of the Jedi collector's glasses from Burger King, but QoH managed to break both of them. She tried to be sneaky and deny knowledge of what happened, but I found one in the trash and the other mysteriously disappeared. I remember confronting her on the one in the trash and then she screamed at me. Nice how that works. Instead of apologizing, scream at the victim. >:(

Anyway, a few years ago I found one of the exact ones that I had in a thrift store for 50 cents so I bought it. ;P It's worth anywhere from $5 to $15 according to what peeps are selling them for on the toobehs.

Return of the Jedi was the only one of the original 3 that I actually saw in a
theatre. I think my sis took me. Movie-going wasn't something my parents did. And on rare occasion if QoH wanted to see something of interest to her(usually something completely boring and of no interest to a kid), I'd get dragged along to the dollar theatre with her and paternal unit. And she was chronically late, so we'd always miss like the first 10 or 15 minutes. :/

All that to say that since RotJ was the only one I saw, most of the toys I have are from that movie. Like lots of Ewoks and biker scouts and stuff. ;P

Some people take the completionist thing pretty far.

Yeah, there was this millionaire who lived in Palm Beach IIRC who had all sorts of Star Trek memorabilia and even had a replica of the Enterprise's bridge in his mansion. I'd be happy to just have one room with display cases for my collection. ;D

I almost saw the first Star Wars movie in a theater. I was about 12 years old when I got invited to a birthday party of a friend of mine (I still had friends back then). The idea was to go see a movie but our own town didn't have an actual cinema so we went to a neighboring town. We found a cinema that had Star Wars playing in it but as it turned out all tickets were sold out.
Instead, we found a different cinema that had a different movie playing. I think it was "They Call Me Trinity" with Bud Spencer and Terence Hill. I remember having a lot of fun watching that movie.
You know, I don't think I had ever heard of Star Wars before I wasn't able to go see it. I can only wonder what my life would have been if the tickets hadn't been sold out.

Like lots of Ewoks and biker scouts and stuff.

If only some of those were worth a few grand. That would be really nice. ;P

I can remember when I was a very little kid that Star Wars was a very big thing. When I was maybe 4 years old QoH threw a SW themed b-day party for me complete with a life size R2D2 piñata and the record of the original musical score of the movie playing.

Yeah, too bad I don't have some rare collectable around here to sell for big moolah. ;P

BTW, I have some He-Man toys, too, as well as Thundercats. :)

Geesh, how many figurines do you have? Why so many?
I think the only figurines I ever had were those of the Smurfs that were given away at the local supermarket if you had bought over a certain amount of stuff there.

Reading on the PD forum it seems a common behavior for N's that they only like kids when they are very young and compliant and can sorta use them as a living doll to show off. So having the SW party was more about her showing off her awesomeness than doing something for me even though I benefited from it. If the subject comes up she always brags about the piñata that *she* made, not about if I had fun or not. So yeah, sometime there is a side benefit to having a N person trying to impress peeps.

When I was a kid she *did* go all out for b-day and such, so that was pretty cool.

I guess the figurines were cheaper than buying all the vehicles and stuff. The SW ones are kinda small compared to the others. Oh, and I did have some GI Joe ones as well as some of the boats and vehicles. I think I enjoyed playing with and having the figures the best.

Smurfs. Heh. That's what you get for living so close to Belgium. ;P

For me it was Legos and something called Playmobil. I still have the lego pieces. Oh, and a collection of toy cars. I used to love playing with those in my bedroom closet as a kid.
I also played house with my sister's dolls now and again. Although only when I and my sister were in my her bedroom. I guess we took turns WRT which bedroom to play in and whose toys to play with.

That's what you get for living so close to Belgium.

Well, it's not like I didn't like the figurines. I used to really like the Smurfs.

I liked Legos, too. The castles and knights ones. ;P When I was 20-something my former bff and her hubby bought me a set that was similar to Legos but it had a big dragon and a wizard. IIRC there was a "magic crystal" (powered by a watch battery) that when you stuck it on the dragon's chest it made his eyes light up. ;D

a collection of toy cars.

Ah, yes, I have some of those, too. And one of those racetrack things where you race the miniature RC cars.

I also played house with my sister's dolls now and again.

:O ;P

I never had kids my own age to play with, not really. There were a few kids around the neighborhood, but they were either total dicks or they moved away after a few months. It wasn't until I was like 12 or 13 when there were some boys my age that I used to play with like my next door neighbor. Mainly I just went to his house to play Nintendo or we'd go ride bikes with another kid from the next street.

I used to really like the Smurfs.

:O

Hey, it finally got significantly cooler today. I don't think it got above 60 which made it great for mowing the lawn (except it was a bit windy and it was making my throat hurt from the cold air). I really needed a balaclava or keffiyeh (that would *really* annoy QoH)but had to settle for just a large do-rag over my face like a bandit. ;P

Anyway, over the weekend there was free Showtime and I got to watch St Vincent which was not too horrible and half of Garm Wars: The Last Druid by the same director who did Ghost in the Shell. There were some really neat CGI effects in that one even though it mainly looked like a low budget series for Canadian TV.

That is not going to happen. All I'm going to say is American women are much feistier than European women and any sand savages who think they are going to come here and try their nonsense are likely to end up with ventilation holes. :)

BTW, to rile up QoH a bit, after I had already mowed the yard and came back inside, I used my beach sarong to tie around my face like a keffiyeh. QoH said I looked like a terrorist and I should not wear that outside (not that I was planning to) because someone might shoot me. LOL

Hey, we got snow! Yay! Actually, it's more like a few millimeters of icy snowflakes. But still. Snow! Snnnoooooooooowwww! 'Cause it's cold. People are trying to skate on natural ice even. Some incurable optimist is probably planning the Elfstedentocht right now.

You can now make a very tiny snowman. ;P

We are due for another "cold" front moving through tomorrow. It's supposed to be another strong rain and wind event that lasts 15 minutes ::rolls eyes:: followed by some colder air than the last time. It's supposed to go down to the *high 40's* on Saturday. Brrrrrr!!! ;P

It would be interesting to see the Sahara go green again. Canadians and Scandinavians might complain about the low temperatures but that would also make the refugees think thrice about going to the cold, cold West. Pros and cons. :)

I'm almost 48 apparently. 2 Years from 50. I can't help wonder what my younger self would think if he knew how he'd end up. I had no idea when I was, say, 12 years old. Just no idea.

What would *really* be interesting would be to see Antarctica green again, but then every other place would likely be too hot and unlivable. :/ BTW, Canadians are crazy. They BBQ outside during blizzards.

Yeah, I know how you feel. It sucks, doesn't it? If I had any idea when I was a teen I probably would have went ahead and swallowed a whole bottle of Tylenol. :/

Lat week I had looked up on the toobs a kid I knew when I was in 3rd grade. He was Indian and probably the smartest kid I've ever known. No surprise that he is a very successful Cardiologist now. I've never even had a facebook page. Never bothered. My sister has one. She also has a life.

My bedroom (in the attic) has finally been cleaned up. No more crap in boxes scattered along the walls. Plus I got myself a "new" table to sit on. It used to be the old kitchen table but it's actually quite nice.

I was very reluctant to have one when I first started getting invites from peeps. I think I went ahead and did it when I got an invite from one of my Canadian friends. It seemed like a good way to stay in touch At the time. It got to the point of being a real time waster and then it just made me feel bad to see other peeps going on living their lives happily and doing things like normal people while I'm stuck in some kind of horrible limbo because of my awful parental units and the whacked out upbringing I had.

The thing that pisses me off the most about it is peeps on there are supposed to be you "friends" but none of them really are. The only time I hear from any of them is on my birthday and only because on FB they post reminders about who's BD it is and then you can write something. So basically no one would remember if not for the reminders. (BTW I sent you a BD ecard already, it *should* be in your inbox. If not, I was already planning to send another one JIC ;P)

The premiere episode (Sunday night) was a bit meh and at one point Gillian Anderson had a scene where it felt like she was just reading her lines. And then the blatant political swipes. I was a little iffy on how the rest of it (6 episodes in total) is going to play out, but the second episode (Monday night) was better. It seemed like it was back to being like the old show. Hell, they even use the exact same intro and theme music. I'm definitely going to watch all the episodes since X-Files was one of my favorite shows back in the day. :)

Hmm, very strange. It was a Smurf card. So just google "Smurf ecards" and you'll see a bunch. I sent the b-day one.

Does it do anything interesting?

Not yesterday. It just perched on the phone lines and scanned the area for prey. The last couple times I saw it, it was diving down on its prey, so that was pretty cool.

Anyhoo, some excitement this morning. QoH woke me up to say that the neighbor from across the street called and said that someone was in our yard. QoH said she heard someone trying to open the door. I was sound asleep and had only slept 3 hours at that point because I was up late watching Basic Instinct 2. :O

So I get up and go look out the peep hole and saw nothing. So then I called the nabe back and she answers but is of little use. I don't know how to describe her--it's like talking to a retard--so she puts her brother on the phone and I asked him some questions and then he went to see if the guy was still out there. Apparently, according to him, the guy was in our yard for like 10 minutes and then walked across the street and was hanging on the stop sign. I was going to grab my protection but QoH had a fit about that, so I just took my perp seasoning and fish bat and went outside to look.

Nabe said it looked like a kid, and indeed the person was very small and was likely a kid. He was wearing a black hoodie with the hood pulled over his head and black pants. I noticed that it was sprinkling rain slightly so maybe he was on our porch trying to stay dry, but why try the door or go to the nabe's house and do the same thing? Doesn't make sense. I watched him for a few minutes and then he crossed back over to our side of the street but at the point of the next house up and walked north up the sidewalk. I lost sight of him because it was dark and he was wearing all black.

I really didn't need all that bullshit. When I got back up around noon-thirty, QoH lectures me about how stupid I am and called me a "proven liar" amongst other things because she didn't like something I allegedly said to nabe on the phone. For the record, she was the one who said it in the background when I was talking to them and I responded 'what's the point of having it if I can't use it' but she swears I said something completely different (which I didn't say). She's paranoid that the govt is recording everything and has her targeted which is so fucking crazy and that the guy was working for the govt. Crazy shit. IMO it was some dumbass kid.

Well, I was actually watching a documentary about La Bare in Dallas (the first of that chain of male strip clubs) and that movie came on afterward. I had caved and was looking at Facebook and one of my friends from school got me in a chat, so my phone battery wore down. So I put thr phone on the charger and was really just waiting for it to charge back while that movie was on. It wasn't that great and I shut it off and went to bed when the phone was done charging. ;)

She can never give an intelligent answer. Everything is "I don't know".

Yes, these people do a lot of casing. You can never assume someone is just doing something innocently. Normal people don't go up to people's houses and try the door. It's a common crime of opportunity to try car doors and steal things from unlocked ones.

The "fish bat" is just another term for my truncheon. :) it's for whackin' stuff. :D

We don't have a fence or gate in front. It used to be that there was an ordinance disallowing that. You could only have a fence up the lot lines and in the back. The back yard is fenced with 2 separate gates and those are padlocked. Anyone can walk up the front walkway to the front porch without hindrance, though. We always keep all the doors locked, deadbolted, and chained.

So what do you usually whack with it then?

I have used it a couple times to dispatch vermin who didn't immediately die in traps. And I threw it at those damn dogs who tore up my car.

I just get to make fun of your old age sooner. ;P

Oh! Almost forgot...I wanted to tell you about the ridiculous thing that QoH said to me today. It got cooler than 80F today. It was like 60-ish this afternoon and was supposed to go down to the low 50s tonight. QoH always likes to go grocery shopping on Friday, so I dressed in pants and a long-sleeved henley and got my black leather mid-length coat out of the closet to bring with me just in case. When QoH saw I was bringing my coat, she says to me that I should not wear it because someone will think that I have a lot of money and rob me and kill me. O_o Okay, first of all, it's a vintage 1970s leather and looks it. It was purchased for like $5 at a thrift store. It hardly screams megabucks. ::facepalm:: :/ I took it along anyway but didn't wear it because it didn't get that cold while we were out. I just can't get over how stupid that statement was.

It has always seemed like a bit of both to me. The chain thingies have a sorta spring-loaded retracting mechanism and are noisy when the chain retracts. I think my mother always liked that feature as she could hear if someone was leaving the house. She has always monitored everyone's movements like she's a damn jailer. My sister (who QoH always complained was like a cat burglar because of her stealth abilities) discovered the trick to getting around it, though. If you pull the chain out a bit and engage the locking mechanism, you can slip the chain off without it retracting and carefully let the chain hang down without it making any noise. I use that trick currently. Although QoH questioned me about it just the other day. ;P

And the other thing that she has started doing recently is if I go to grab a bag of chips from on top of the table that's near the door, she'll scream from the kitchen, "Why are you going out?!?" She mistakes the crinkling of the chip bag for the noise the chain thingy makes. I think she need to have her hearing checked to mistake the one sound for the other. They sound totally different.

If it did, would you still wear it?

Probably. ;P Although I don't know what would make it look that way. Maybe some ridiculous furs or something.

So I can't watch it unless I watch downstairs and that's where my parents watch TV.

Why is that the only TV that gets Fox?

They don't watch X files.

I think you should introduce them to the joys of The X-Files. ;P ;D

BTW, do your old peeps bring up stuff that happened like over 30 years ago and they are still pissed off over it?

Where do you sneak off to then?

The TV card in my computer is too crappy. And I think the signal is encrypted. You need a special thingy to put into the TV to be able to view some of the channels that you paid for.

I think you should introduce them to the joys of The X-Files.

My mother is paranoid enough as she is (and she doesn't like scary/action movies).

do your old peeps bring up stuff that happened like over 30 years ago and they are still pissed off over it?

I guess my mother does that although she's not what I would call 'pissed off' when she does. Then again, even if when she is pissed off she won't admit to being it.

I used to do that as well. Bring up mistakes my parents had made that helped fuck up my life. My dad really hated that as he has trouble acknowledging any mistakes he makes.

Where do you sneak off to then?

Nowhere. It's just that in the morning I have a routine where I like to go out to check the mail and bring in the garbage bin if it is garbage pick-up day. It only takes me a few minutes to do it and then I come back inside. But if QoH hears me, she likes to start her routine, which is to start talking incessantly about all the crap she watched on cable news that morning. Once she gets going, it could be anywhere from 10-45 minutes of non-stop talking at me, and I'm expected to just stand there and hang on her every word. If I make it out without her hearing, then when I come back in I can get on with making myself a cup of tea and something to eat while she yammers. ;P

My mother is paranoid enough as she is

So you have one, too. ;)

I guess my mother does that...

QoH is still upset over something that happened when I was like 6 or 7 years old. My class took a field trip to Disney World and for whatever reason, QoH wasn't selected as a chaperone. My classmate/friend's father was in charge of me and her. My mother gave him $20 and instructed him that I was to eat fish at the fish restaurant in Magic Kingdom. Well, that did not happen. Friend's father was like a big kid himself and we ended up having hotdogs and soda to eat. When we returned home, he presented QoH with her $20 back and was proud of the fact that he saved her the money. QoH was not pleased and she has bitched about it ever since.

I had to laugh to myself when she brought it up yesterday and said that 'you didn't even get to eat the meal that *you* wanted'. Erm, when I was a kid I was never given a choice. I ate whatever QoH told me to eat. What I wanted didn't matter. The fish meal was what QoH wanted me to eat. And back then I was so used to being told what to do and not allowed to have an opinion that even if presented with a choice I wouldn't know what to do. So if they were having hotdogs I didn't say anything contrary.

My dad really hated that as he has trouble acknowledging any mistakes he makes.

QoH takes it a step further. Not only will she never acknowledge any of her mistakes, she will turn it around and make it seem like I'm the one in the wrong. :/

No, it was more of her trying to micromanage and control things + this notion of hers that she is superior to everyone else. Eating fish--in her way of thinking--is superior to eating "junk" like what all the other lesser parents feed their kids. On one hand, it's a good thing to feed your kid healthy food and not a steady diet of crap, but to be so crazy about it that you bring it up 30+ years later is PD territory. Although I think she was more pissed over the fact that he did not follow her instructions than anything else. If she wants x to happen, and x does not happen, she is going to be pissed and bring it up and still be pissed about it for all eternity.

Okay, X-Files was one of those dumb spoof episodes that they do from time to time. I was watching it thinking WTF is this shit? It was like watching a cracked-out fanfic meets Scooby Doo. I wouldn't have had a problem with it if they were doing a full season and this one was 10 or so episodes in, but this is only supposed to be 6 a episode mini season and this is only the 3rd episode. Anyway, I guess I'm in the minority for disliking it. Most at tv.com seemed to like it. The one thing I did like was Sully was killing with one liners and she has nice boos for someone her age. ;P (I'm sure you'll find the gifs on the toobs) ;)

The Iowa thing is the first state to do the primaries for each party. My guy won so I was pleased. :) it's like both important to win and also not because you still have 49 more states to go.

Cruz is my #1. He's like a character from Game of Thrones--has the shrewdness of Tyrion Lannister with the honor of...IDK, who is honorable on that show? ;P

Bernie is a flaming Socialist. While I'm opposed to his ideology, at least he is honest about what he believes (unlike the Hildabeast) and he has the best accent. He was always good for entertainment value when he used to flip out in the Senate.

my sister uses it more often than I do

Didn't you buy it from her? You could sell it back to her. ;)

I think he calls himself a social democrat. But he's also an American so I don't really know what he means by that.

You could sell it back to her.

It's much easier for her to let me pay for the insurance, parking license and maintenance.

It's not like you are going on any grand tours anywhere and need a car.

And if I were to go on a grand tour I'd probably not drive myself but I'd take the train. I like train rides. They're pretty relaxed.

He's totally for EU style socialism. He's always been very open about that.

I don't think GoT has an equivalent to Bernie. Hillary is a cross between Cersei and Melisandre (and a Harpy ;P). Cruz should start wearing a cloak like the Sam Neill's Merlin with the black feathers. That would be badass. ;P

Yep. I think it was only around 3 hours long without all the commercials. IIRC, they managed to stretch it out for 2 or 3 nights when it originally aired. I remember that my sister was really into it and would call me to ask if I was watching it. She really liked the outfits that Mab wore. Having just having my memory refreshed, I liked them, too. I also noticed that Lena Headley (who plays Cersei in GoT) was in it playing Guinevere.

Hey, did you happen to see the news article about the guy who attacked some old man at a gas station and then went to the Swap Shop and attacked a vendor with a sword?

Oh, BTW, I was watching some show about UFOs and Sasquatches the other night. My mother has a story where she saw a UFO come up from the side of I-95 near 151st Street when she was driving to work like 45 years ago. She said the thing made all sorts of kaleidoscopic patterns and then changed into some sort of fluorescent green color and drifted off to the northeast and out of sight. She said everyone on the road at the time was pulling over to look at it and then the news tried to say that it was an aurora borealis. O_o

Anyway, in the show I was watching they said those UFO incidents happened from 1966-1971. So the next morning I wanted to have a little fun with her and asked her when her incident happened. Then she goes on to tell me that one time when she and my dad were going to visit her sister who lived in the Naples area at the time, she saw a Skunk Ape crossing a field. :O That was the first time she ever mentioned that. Hmm, so it is. For some reason I thought there was an "L" in there.

Did that happen near where you live?

Not exactly near where I live, but I'm familiar with the area where it happened. The most annoying part was when the guy attacked the old man, there were 2 other adult males inside the store who immediately ran away instead of trying to help. The elderly lady (who was the guy's wife) was the only one who fought the guy off. She had more balls than the 2 empty sacks who ran away. At least during the incident at the Swap Shop when he attacked the Indian guy with the sword, another vendor eventually came and subdued him until the police got there. It really pisses me off when people are so cowardly as to allow someone to beat up a frail elderly person and not intervene. That poor old dude looked like he went 10 rounds with Mike Tyson.

I guess she could have seen an ape.

In one pic I've seen of the Myakka beast it looks like it could be an orangutan. It's not unheard of for there to be escaped apes living in the wild in Florida. There are green vervets in Ft Lauderdale.

Crazy people with samurai swords do tend to be a bit intimidating. I'd probably get to safety as well. And then call the police. Where were the police in all this anyway? There was like an hour between the events, if I read the right article.

He didn't have the sword when he was at the gas station. He was just hitting the old man in the face. And from looking at the video several times, it wasn't a samurai sword. It looked like a replica Civil War saber. Which he picked up from the display at the Swap Shop and attacked the vendor.

Where were the police in all this anyway?

They are completely useless. All they do is show up and take a report and do nothing to track down the criminal. That is why it is of utmost importance to know how to defend one's self and take care of bidness yo'self. So they were likely sitting on their asses writing a report while the EMTs bandaged up the old guy.

So is it actually cold over yonder?

Yep. It is cold by Florida standards. It went down to the high 40's last night and is currently around 60F right now. I'm very pleased, especially that it is staying cooler for almost a week. It's supposed to go back up to 80F next Tuesday, though. :/

I'm sure it happens sometimes. I wouldn't want their job. They have to come out and be professional even when called out for something utterly ridiculous. For example, when QoH used to go to her regular doc appts, I was sitting in the waiting room when there was a very minor collision in the parking lot(the waiting room has glass windows facing the parking lot so you can see what is happening). 2 idiots backed out at the same time and bumped into each other at a very very slow speed. The one woman came inside and was calling 911 on her cell phone and pacing back and forth raising a real ruckus. Then as an afterthought, she demands an ambulance come out and check her. There wasn't anything wrong with the bitch. When the EMTs got there she put on a real show like she had whiplash, cardiac arrest, etc. The EMTs went through the paces and acted professional while she bitched and carried on like she was struck by a speeding train or something. Of course nothing was wrong with her. You could tell by the looks on the EMTs faces that they knew she was full of shit and trying to embellish probably for a lawsuit claim. Anyway, after she and the EMTs all left, everyone in the waiting area and even the employees just burst out laughing about what a faker and asshole that lady was and how they felt bad for the EMTs having to put up with that nonsense.

The groundhog?

Whoever did the ad came up with a very clever idea. Usually political ads are lame and/or annoying.

It was so boring. :)

So no strippers? ;P

Just wet snow, it doesn't stay there, it just melts.

Blech. That's no fun at all. :(

How was your weekend? Fun or not fun?

Meh. There was no MMA this weekend (other than the MMA awards where Holly Holm won 4 IIRC). I grilled some steaks and chicken yesterday, so that was the highlight. Not much going on. :/

Same here. I did watch the new Mad Max movie the other day. It's quite entertaining. Might even be better than the original.

There's going to be a new GOT season, I saw. There was a trailer. I haven't watched it (because spoilers).

I got me some new markers. There the type with a flexible brush nib. The ink is water based. I really need to draw something now. Can't not do it, I think.

Wait, how do you grill a steak?

That's what I heard. I'll definitely watch it if it comes on one of the movie channels.

Wait, how do you grill a steak?

What? How do you cook a steak? I'm always appalled if someone fries a steak. I guess it's a southern thing, but the only proper way to cook a steak is over flames. In my case, I don't have one of those fancy gas grills, so I have a small hibachi-type thing that uses charcoal briquets. You stack up the briquets and get them lit, then wait until they ash over and are good and hot, then spread them out in the bottom of the unit, put the metal grill over the top and let it get nice and hot, then put the steaks on. They taste delicious when they are cooked over a charcoal fire. :)

BTW, had some wild weather this morning around 7:30 - 8am. It woke me up at 7:50 it was so loud. I went back to sleep at 8am when it was over. Apparently there were some tornadoes in a front that went through. There's a lot of damage in the area but we had none (I did some protection incantations ;P).

Not on the internet specifically. We've had lots of chaos going on here like the guy driving the dump truck off the 100 foot tall overpass in downtown Miami and landing in front of Jose Marti Park, or all the storm damage and tornado stuff that happened today. If you looked up one of our local news sites like channel 7 I'm sure you could find hours worth of entertainment. ;P

Just a bunch of idiotic yahoos IMO. Apparently there is a big kerfluffle about it up there. I don't really see what the problem is considering it's being done on private property.

The kerfluffle is about some peeps not liking the debauchery that is going on and also the use of firearms on the property so the got is trying to step in to do something. Like I said before, it's on private property, so unless they are breaking some noise ordinance, I don't really see what the big deal is. Even with a noise violation, that would be a fine. It is illegal in the state of Florida to take someone's property over something silly like that.

I had a dream about being friends with Lady Gaga the other night. We were doing art together. ;)

Yeah, forgot to add that the govt is doing their usual thing of acruing fines and trying to foreclose on the guy's home to force him out. IDK if there were real code violations or not, but it was probably the usual lawfare they use to try to force people into compliance. I take the libertarian attitude that as long as people are consenting and no one is getting hurt, that peeps should be able to do what they like on private property. I'd only object if there were noise issues with the neighbors, then they should tone down the volume, otherwise have at it.

If they hurt themselves, who cares really?

Well, I nearly got busted reading a steamy fic. QoH is getting sneakier and I didn't hear her coming until she was already opening the door to my room and I only had a second to slam the computer shut which she saw me do. Unfortunately I had the look on my face that I had been busted and she jumped all over me for it and then tried to open the computer to see what I was looking at. Fortunately for me I have it password protected and wasn't about to unlock it for her. She kept badgering me and I lied and said that I was looking to see when my dead pool winnings were coming and that I slammed it shut because she gets all crazy if she thinks I'm talking to someone on the internet. I don't know if she bought that or not, but it covers for me should my prize arrive in the mail and she gets to the mail before I do. It's really fucking ridiculous that I'm going to be 40 in a couple months and I'm still treated like I'm a damn child. For fuck's sake, I'm sooo tired of having to sneak around because she overreacts to things and can't fucking knock without just barging in. Grrrrrr.... :( Anyway, Harper Lee died and I had picked her before for dead pool but didn't have her this time, and I *was* going to eventually get around to checking to see if anyone had her.

Harper Lee died

Yeah, I read about that. I've never read any of her books but I had heard of To Kill A Mockingbird. Oh, Umberto Eco died as well.

My youngest nephew was here for a stay over. We watched "Godzilla vs Mothra" this morning. Those old movies are really kinda fun.

It's not a fictional show, it's one of those reality ones with real life mob wives. I only watch it once in a blue moon if there is nothing else on to watch. Those chicks are generally too catty for my tastes. They're like overgrown junior high mean girls. Big Ang was the only one I liked.

Well, most of the movies they played were ones I'd already seen with the exception of Jupiter Ascending (which was meh, mostly action with very little plot and way too long) and Magic Mike XXL (which was beyond stupid and unwatchable and I turned it off after 30 minutes while watching it with the volume muted). And just a while ago I watched the new Mad Max which was another one with mostly action and little plot but done better than Jupiter Ascending. Kinda like watching 2 hours of the Burning Man festival. ;P

IDK, I guess I'm getting old or something. I prefer my movies with an interesting story. Are peeps so stupid these days that they like all action and no story to make their brains work too hard? ;D

I did watch Kingsman, Non-Stop and Tomorrowland (which was renamed Project T here for some unfathomable reason). I actually liked all of them.

Yeah, I do like a good mystery. And suspense works better than an overdose of "action", I think.

It probably would look really good on a hi-def big screen TV. The CGI was pretty good, although IMO they relied on that and all the action too much. Channing Tatum was not horrible this time (I usually can't stand him and I think he's a shit actor). Mila Kunis was good. Eddie Redmayne was a little over the top.

I watched American Sniper. It wasn't too bad, although I don't much care for these military worshiping movies. Most of these guys are kinda douche-y IRL.

I do like a good mystery.

So have you watched any good non-action-y type movies that you can recommend? The only sorta drama ones that were talked about for the Oscars were Carol and The Danish Girl which were probably talked about mainly because they were LGBT movies and the Hollywood peeps just gush for those.

Nothing recent, I guess. I rarely watch those type of movies anyway. Too depressing, generally. Geesh, I think the last one I watched was Magnolia. Any P.T. Anderson movie is recommendable.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold on a minute. I didn't say anything about "without violence". I just mean without all the over-the-top action sequences. I have nothing against some good violence. ;D Casino and Goodfellas had lots of violence. :)

I re-watched American Sniper last night since I missed the first few minutes and some scenes in the middle because of QoH interruptions. I never served in the military but I have to call bullshit on some of the stuff in there like him talking to his wife on satellite phone while engaging in a fire fight. Also some of the BUDS training scenes I call bullshit on. I doubt that those drill instructors would have put up with the witty/sarcastic repartee. Like I said before, a lot of these guys are braggarts and bullshit artists and embellish a lot of their experiences (like QoH's exBF).

That being said, I don't mind a good military experience story. The best ones I've heard were rather self-deprecating like this one chick whose blog I used to read would tell stories from time to time about when she was in the Army in basic training. Like the time they were practicing throwing live grenades and most of the women recruits couldn't throw for shit and couldn't even get the thing past the line that they were supposed to throw it past and everyone having to duck for cover. Then Laura said she was all cocky and shit cuz she could throw pretty good, so she throws it and just stood there watching it cuz she wanted to see how far it went and the drill instructor grabbed her by the back of her uniform and pulled her down and was screaming at her "What the fuck are you doing? Get down!" Cuz getting blown up while gawking would be bad. LOLOL

I like honest stories. Like people admitting that most of basic training really sucks especially if you are stuck doing it in a place like Alabama or Georgia during the summer (super hot and super humid and totally miserable) but then some stuff is pretty cool like learning to shoot and using various weapons.

I think some enterprising person should make some sort of "military camp" where adults can go and run obstacle courses, do hand-to-hand fighting, shoot guns, and that sort of thing without all that bothersome getting-up-at-o'dark-thirty-to-run-10-miles crap and drill sergeants screaming in your face all the damn time. Because I like shooting guns and blowing shit up and having a good tussle, but I do not like getting up early and being yelled at without me being able to yell back. ;P

Sure. One of my favorites was Ben Franklin's(Yeah, I know he's not military. I also read ones by Colonel Hackworth and John McCain before I knew what a douche he was). If it was possible to have a time machine and meet historical figures, Franklin would be my #1 to meet. He was smart, witty, a bit of a smartass, and somewhat of a flirt. He seems like someone who I could have a good time with. ;P

Are you sure something like that doesn't already exist?

I know there was a place where you could go to drive tanks. And there are obstacle courses. And various types of gun ranges. I don't know if anyone has thought to put all those together.

Anyway, I had the weirdest dreams last night. I dreamed I was arguing with Jillian Michaels about my shoulder muscles and genetics and such. That's what I get for watching her stupid reality show last night. She's such a nasty and combative person. I should have learned my lesson from when she was on that show where peeps try to pitch their idea for a new workout. She was very rude and nasty to them. I see that show didn't get a second season. Can't imagine why. ;P I think she maybe has some sort of PD from the way she is so combative and hostile all the time. Seems like a NPD. No wonder it was triggering for me. :/

Anyway, since Blogger ate my reply that I typed on my phone (and ate another one from my phone the other day and several test ones after it ate the long reply) I'm just gonna have to do this from my laptop. I guess it's into eating anonymous ones. :/

In regards to my shoulder muscles, I have been exercising them til the cows come home and they haven't been getting any bigger. Jillian has pronounced ones (even though she is lean and not bulky) so my subconscious obviously got bent out of shape over that. Since everyone has different genetics and some muscles are going to be bigger or a different shape than those of other peeps, that's just the way it is.

My triceps, however, are starting to look more pronounced. When I wear a form fitting long sleeve shirt, they can be seen through the material. My biceps are pretty good, too. ;)

Anyway, QoH has had me out back trimming on the avocado tree again today. I am on break now. At least it is nice and cool outside so it isn't too bad. :)

Not that much. We had a nice conversation and then he went to do his own thing.
This morning we had started watching another Godzilla movie but his father came to pick him up a half hour into the movie. I guess that's for next time.

that's just the way it is.

Yeah, there's not much you can do about that right now.

When I wear a form fitting long sleeve shirt

Is that like one of those things superheroes wear? I mean, they look practically naked in the comics. It's a little odd. Hey, what kind of logo would you put on your shirt if you were a superheroine?

At least it is nice and cool outside so it isn't too bad.

Nice and cool? Hm. Around here we still need to turn on the central heating. Especially in the evening. My attic room gets pretty chilly otherwise.

Hmm, Godzilla was on when I had free HBO but I didn't watch it. Was it any good?

Nah, the longsleeve ones I have are a couple henleys, one Roxy one with a hood, another cream color one with a hood and those tabs the hold up the sleeves, and a couple that are just tshirt material. They fit like regular knit shirts. They aren't tight like Under Armor, but because I work out the sleeves fit snug. :)

Hmm, don't know about a logo. Maybe some kind of stylized X for Xul or maybe some kind of dragon.

It hasn't been cool enough here to require the heat at any time this "winter". My room usually is the hottest or coldest depending on the season without the AC, but with the AC that isn't the case. Since it's next to where the central unit is it gets the coldest when it is on. Luckily it hasn't had to run much for the past 2 months and the electricity bill has been pretty low. :)

Had some excitement last night. Someone apparatus stole a car and lit it on fire about 15 meters from my house. I was watching TV and kept hearing a sound like a metal dumpster being dropped. I went outside and saw the car fully engulfed with the fire truck and police already there putting it out. Then they had to break into the trunk to check for bodies. None in there apparently. Then I went back inside and went to bed. That happened at 1am and took 30 minutes for them to do everything.

Have you ever considered putting some solar panels on the roof? It's not like Florida lacks the sunlight. Even in my town a couple of houses have them.

Cars do apparently sometimes ignite themselves on their own. It seems to have happened a couple of times in my town. I guess the car didn't belong to anyone in your neighbourhood though?

The recent remake one. I haven't watched any of the original Japanese ones since I was a kid. They were cheesy. ;P

Have you ever considered putting some solar panels on the roof?

Nope. Those are expensive and require some kind of inverter.

It's not like Florida lacks the sunlight.

It's not as sunny here as peeps seem to think. It's cloudy and rainy half the time.

Cars do apparently sometimes ignite themselves on their own.

This didn't seem to be a case of spontaneous automotive combustion. It was dumped in a spot that peeps seem to like to dump stolen cars. I'm just glad that they didn't dump it in front of our house. We've had a couple cars dumped in front of ours before.

I guess the car didn't belong to anyone in your neighbourhood though?

Nope. Everyone around here has a private driveway to park in.

BTW, never a dull moment--I'm watching a live police chase on the TV. 4 urban yoots stole a car, crashed it, then ran from the popo, then 2 of them got in another car and were chased by more popo, then bailed out and were chased on foot by an officer who caught one of them, now they are chasing the other one (news helicopter is providing the footage). Okay, they just got the second one...heh K9 is ready to tear his ass up. :) Unfortunately no one is riding the lightning. :/ Ah well, still 2 on the loose. Maybe they'll get their asses.

No, I don't. You likely have never had things stolen from you (including a car). I had to bust my ass for the things that I have. And for some piece of shit to come along and just take something because they feel like it and because they have some sort of retrograde antisocial "culture" that celebrates criminality and "sticking it to the man"...No. Fuck them. And they do it with such boldness and contempt. You should have seen the motherfuckers in court today. Zero respect or fear of the legal system. Acting like wild animals and laughing because they know that they are minors and nothing will happen to them. I'd like to see them try that attitude in the middle east where sharia law is in place. They'd be getting their fucking hands chopped off. Then we'd see how fucking hilarious they thought it all was.

in your mother's eyes, you are pretty similar to a criminal sometimes, I bet.

What a mentally ill person thinks and committing actual serious crimes are 2 very different things.

I have to assume that you are only kidding.

I'm not.

I also do not think that corporal punishment is the best way to get people to behave in a civilized manner.

The main problem here is the individuals who do shit like this have zero parenting and the "parents" are generally the same. Illegitimate little bastards whose mothers don't give a shit what the kid is doing as long as it's not inconveniencing her, uninvolved "fathers", and when the little fucks do shit like this the "mother" is there making excuses and blaming everyone except themselves. All that to say that these shitheads are a product of an antisocial underclass who despise the notion of a civil society. They don't think rules and laws apply to them and there's not much that can be done to curb their behavior other than locking their sorry asses up.

Have your parents ever hit you?

Sure. Mainly QoH. While it's not the best method it certainly works to put fear into you.

There was not much on TV tonight so I watched that Jillian Michaels show again. Meh, I guess she's not that terrible. At least when her kid was getting bullied at school she told him to hit the other kid back and then took him for karate lessons. Her partner said that if everyone parented like her school would be like Thunderdome. LOL Even broken clocks are right twice a day and all. ;P I still think she's very abrasive and intense.

I bet I could be a pretty good personal trainer. I can actually be encouraging and motivational if I try (I know, shock right? ;P) even though that's not my natural state. I've learned to be diplomatic along the way. ;)

What a mentally ill person thinks and committing actual serious crimes are 2 very different things.

Don't get me wrong. I think stealing a car is a stupid and wrong thing to do. I'm sure that if someone had stolen their car, they'd be angry as well. Perhaps they'd call the police. But, they probably don't have a car. They may not have anything worthwhile stealing even. can you imagine having less than you have right now? Not even the dream of a better future? Having nothing to lose? What would society be worth to you in such circumstances? Nothing perhaps. Of no use. Just a pile of useless garbage that you're not allowed to touch. If you destroyed it all
it would have no negative effect on your life as far as you know.

That kind of view of the world is what needs to change. Caning them or cutting their hands off or even merely locking them up will not do that.

I'm not.

Well, that's... How shall I put this?... Not very Christian of you. :)

individuals who do shit like this have zero parenting

They don't seem to have much of a community either. And that community seems to not have much of a link with the rest of the State.

blaming everyone except themselves

And everyone is blaming them instead putting at least some of the blame on the general socio-cultural order?

I bet I could be a pretty good personal trainer.

It's good to have a dream. You're still young. You could go to trainer school and get yourself a diploma. If only you could get permission from your mother.

This argument about 'people are criminals because they are poor' is utter bullshit. There are very few truly poor people in this country. There was a survey taken a while back and all these so-called 'poor' people all have electricity, running water, flat screen TV's, etc. When I was a kid and didn't have a car I would never had stolen someone's car with the reasoning that they had something I don't have so it's okay for me to take it from them.

I think one of the problems is intelligence disparity and some people are just more defiant.

Not very Christian of you. :)

Christianity doesn't mean being permissive to lawlessness.

If only you could get permission from your mother.

Or she could croak and I'd be free to explore my options. Speaking of...I forgot to mention that Face Off was on. That's the show where peeps do special effects makeup design. Some of them are really creative and talented. I wonder how much money can be made doing that job? (Hmm, just googled that. Seems like they start at about $23,000. :/) I'm supposed to be an adult but I still can't think of any profession that really appeals to me. :(

I personally think sort of thing is barbaric.

The wrong thing to do, in other words. The wrong thing to wish upon other people, even if they are criminals.

There are very few truly poor people in this country.

No people who lack a wealth in opportunities? Who lack the money to pay for a good education? It's not just about survival and cheap luxuries. It's also about self-worth and faith in a supporting community.

So they're stupid and don't like to play by other people's rules? Sounds like an average teenager to me. In the case of those criminals, a teenager without hope and with memories of humiliation.

Christianity doesn't mean being permissive to lawlessness.

I didn't say it meant that. You really think caning is the Christian thing to do?

I'm supposed to be an adult but I still can't think of any profession that really appeals to me.

Which activity do you, in your daily life, voluntarily spend the most time on doing?

The symbol of the religion is a torture and execution device. Beatings and flogging and executions are prescribed punishment in the OT. Restitution of 7x what was stolen is prescribed. Punishments are to be prescribed by the govt and Christians are to obey the govt unless it opposes God's commandments. Canings would not be in conflict. Also it is written that you are not to make excuses for wickedness and lawlessness. ;)

Watching TV. I don't think there are too many jobs out there for paid TV watcher. ;P

Although if I had my own pub or something I could have a big TV for PPV MMA fights. Owning a building with an upstairs apartment would be ideal. I could live upstairs and make moolah from the pub downstairs.

Or a gym of some sort. I do enjoy working out. Maybe have a gym for wimminz only since a lot of women feel intimidated going to regular gyms with dudes. Although start-up costs for equipment would probably be pretty expensive. I'd have to do a cost-benefit analysis on each to determine which would be the better money maker. It's likely the pub.

I think either 'The Budgie's Tongue' or 'Ronin' would be good names for a pub. The first name I thought up a very long time ago when I was being cheeky. I think it could be for a traditional type with pool tables or air hockey or a shuffleboard table and a jukebox. Maybe a small stage for open mic type stuff. The second one would be good for a Japanese themed one. I could have some awesome samurai armor and some swords and calligraphy in the decor. Have specialty sake and Japanese beers and maybe sushi as bar fair.

IDK, I think I may need to take a course on how to run a small business to make any of that a success.

Fine. If you don't want to have a serious discussion about this then we'll not have one. :)

if I had my own pub

Have you ever been to a pub?

It wouldn't hurt to do that.
