PB & J and other American things

Oh, Arekino...you made me smirk with that! And it got me to thinking about all the types of jellies and jams and combinations in which to eat them. You are correct. PB & J is a very American thing. I think the most common type of jelly to eat with peanut butter is grape jelly. However, I do not like grape jelly. I prefer strawberry jam or orange marmalade to go with the peanut butter on my PB & J! And it's whole wheat bread for me. I can't stand that horrible white stuff.  Peanut butter and banana a la Elvis isn't bad, either.  And then there's the fried eggs and bacon on toasted whole wheat bread with either mayo or ketchup(I prefer mayo) which is quite yummy-noms.  Also, I mustn't forget the delicious Monte Cristo sandwich!

Another thing that is very American is English muffins despite the name. They should more accurately be described as American crumpets, although they are not *quite* like crumpets. They *are* delicious, none-the-less. I like mine toasted with lots of butter. Sometimes I like them toasted with lots of butter *and* strawberry jam. They are also quite good with with guava jam(this is probably a 'Xul is from Florida' thing).

And one of my favorite things to do with an English muffin is to make Eggs Benedict--another combination of misnomers that is also very yummy! Ya got yer combo of poached egg, "Canadian" bacon(ham), and Hollandaise sause on an "English" muffin.

I know I promissed a movie review but I'll get to that a bit later when I have the time to bang it out. And maybe a story about those crazy Germans at the beach!

Hey, we have those too! :) We call such a delicious meal a 'tosti'. Although actually my parents just call it a 'fried sandwich'. I loved eating those as a kid. And they're so easy to make.

guava jam

I've never eaten that but it sounds awesome. I *have* eaten Passion Fruit jam on top of some mascarpone on top of a cracker, also awesome. The homemade strawberry jam turned out great BTW

to make Eggs Benedict

Not a beginners recipe, I believe? Easy for the omelet expert, I suppose. :P

The way I like to make the Monte Cristo is to season the batter with a little nutmeg and dip the bread in like you are making French toast and fry the bread separately. Then, assemble with the ham and Swiss cheese, reheat, then sprinkle the whole thing with powdered sugar. It's seriously yummy!

You and your sexy talk! ;D Getting very 9 1/2 Weeks for me! ;P

I bet! Homemade is always the best! :)

The poached eggs are the tricky part IMO.

Sooooo....did you break out the Speedo in time for the scorching hot weather? Those temperatures are even hotter than here. I pity you that. :/ Maybe there will be nekkid Maypole dancing? ;P

I haven't owned a Speedo since a couple decades ago. They're much less popular these days. I think people are getting a bit prudish. I did put on some cotton shorts this morning.

Maybe there will be nekkid Maypole dancing? ;P

I'd need to get a long enough pole from somewhere. And learn how to dance. Hey, do you dance?

Those temperatures are even hotter than here.

You know, I'm secretly hoping that it will actually get that hot just to see what it's like. Plus it's a record. :)

:( I was hoping for a picture. ;D (Of course you know I am *just kidding*. I know I wouldn't get one. ;) )

Prudish? In the NL?!? I'm *shocked*! ;P

Men over here are into those awful long board shorts. That why we wimminz love when fit European & Brazilian men show up at the beach with some nice tight swimwear. ;D

And learn how to dance. Hey, do you dance?

Nope! I grew up amongst prudes! LOL I only know how to salsa dance. For some reason, that beat is easy to follow and the steps aren't that complicated IMO and you can fake it pretty easily.

Friday is the summer solstice, no? And that means someone somewhere is going to break out the maypole. Ya better learn fast!

I'm secretly hoping that it will actually get that hot just to see what it's like. Plus it's a record. :)

I can tell you that it is pretty awful. The hottest I've ever been in was 42 C in Colombia, South Carolina. I was soooo bad that it was hard to breathe. Luckily, here in S. Florida, the worst it gets is around 35 C, but the average high is probably 33 C.

Arekino, here is something for you to try. ;) They are seriously delicious. I used to eat them when I was a kid. I just might have to try this recipe myself!

Those look great. If you try them then please report back.

I'm cutting my carbs in half for a while though. As an experiment, just to detemermine the effect. Maybe lose a little weight.

It doesn't look like we'll be subject to the Mother Of All Blazing Hot Days unfortunately. It's been cloudy since the early morning. Oh, well, maybe we'll get that thunderstorm instead.

Will do! I just have to get some puff pastry and guava "paste" which is like a small brick of the sweetest substance known to man that just happens to also have a guava flavor to it. Not so good for the carb count! ;P

You should try the Phase 1 thing as your experiment. It cuts out all bread and starchy carbs and fruit IIRC. It does wonders for what ails you and you lose weight as a bonus. :)

I have been changing things up with my workouts a bit. I've been concentrating more on my shoulders. I've been doing that for the past few weeks. I'm already noticing more definition in the front deltoid area. I'd like more definition in the side deltoids, but I guess that will take more time. :/

the Mother Of All Blazing Hot Days unfortunately

You'd have to come here for that! LOL

You mean Thaumatin?

Not so good for the carb count! ;P

It's all about moderation. :)

and fruit

That would mean no strawberries... I can't make that sacrifice :P

I expected to feel hungry but there's none of that. Strange. Have you yourself tried that Phase 1 one thing?

Actually...strawberries are Phase 1. :) Berries, cherries, grapefruit, lemons, and limes are all Phase 1 as well as lean meat, poultry, fish and GOAT CHEESE!!! And veg. Just nothing starchy, sugary, fatty, processed, or unnatural.

Have you yourself tried that Phase 1 one thing?

Sure. I felt really fantastic while on it and you take massive dumps every day. I share because I care. ;P LOL

You should look up the Phase 1 list of foods and try it. It really isn't *that* restrictive if you know how to be creative with food or just like healthy food in general. :)

Well, it's way too warm to do anything over here now. The air is damn moist too. I guess I should be careful what I wish for. How are things over in Florida? Anything going on?

(I'm still not feeling hungry BTW) :)

Yes, you should wish for more enjoyable things! :D

If for some reason you should ever think that I'm exaggerating about the temperature here, just click on the link to Fetch Mt Flying Monkeys over on my sidebar. Laura has a post a couple down from the top that will back up *everything* I've ever said about Colombia, SC, or The South in general. And there's one about Palmetto bugs, too. Verifies everything I've ever said. ;P

How are things over in Florida? Anything going on?

Not much. I had to go outside for about 5 minutes to do a small chore and it is just much too hot. I was sweating hard and had to come into the house in the nice A/C and take my shirt off and then towel myself off. I think I'll just walk around topless for a while(in the house).

I was going to write a new post but I got distracted by some tabs that I had opened last night and didn't get around to reading. I swear I'll have the new post up by tomorrow! ;D

(I'm still not feeling hungry BTW) :)

What exactly are you doing? Ya know, I had a weird dream about you last night--I insisted on giving you a facial and you actually submitted to it without fuss. LOL ;P

Just surfin' the net. Watching old Dragonball Z movies on Youtube. I'm really going to have to find something better to do.

^ O_o Surfin' the net has killed your appetite? I guess it could depending on what you're watching.

I meant which carbs did you cut? Breads, rice, pasta?
