I got some of them right before I went to sleep. Usually related to programming or some insight into how the world works. I too have writing gear nearby just in case.
Sometimes I just lay awake having mock conversations with people. That's less useful, I guess.
Have you had many good ideas in bed? Oh yes. I always have the best ones while I'm laying there trying to fall asleep. I used to think that I'd remember in the morning but usually not all the details. So that's when I just decided to say 'screw it!' and get up and write them down when they were particularly good. So I keep a pencil and paper in bed.
I also have really great ideas when I'm just waking up in the morning and trying to hold on to sleeping. It's always in that half conscious state. Sometimes I have good ideas in the bathroom, usually in the shower. The other day I was in the bathroom doing some beauty maintenance and I was having a good idea and needed to go write it in my computer and someone came and was jabbering away so I was forced to grab the TP and lip liner. That would make a really funny scene, actually.
I too have writing gear nearby just in case. Great minds think alike. ;P
having mock conversations with people. With whom? Anyone in particular? I don't find that weird because I do that for my fiction writing. :)
Oh, anyone. My parents, you, people I used to know at work or in school or one the shrinks I used to go to. Or even just a made up person.
I tend to think of it as rehearsing a conversation, mapping out possible ways a conversation could go. Like when you have to apply for a job, you might do the interview in your head beforehand, to better prepare yourself. Sometimes I just rant though. Get worked up over something minor.
I wouldn't even know where to begin to try to have an imaginary conversation with you, Arekino! You always surprise me. :)
I used to have such bad social anxiety and lack of confidence that I used to rehearse scenarios in my head about what I would say, even mundane things like going into a store and asking for something.
Sometimes I just rant though. Oh, I love a good rant! A lot of peeps find my rants very humorous. ;P
Do you make a special effort to make them humorous? Not necessarily a *special* effort. It's usually just that I'll bluntly say the truth of a matter, something that everyone was thinking but too polite to say out loud, and be a bit of a smarty-pants while I'm at it. I'm only like that with friends, though.
It's a better show than I expected. I'm glad they made it into a TV series. The books are too long and too tedious IMO.

I've almost finished watching the 4th episode of GOT. It's a better show than I expected.
