What happens when peeps like my drawings?

I make more drawings!

This is an abstract dragon design that was in a catalog that I got at least 15 years ago.  I always thought it would make a pretty cool design for a tattoo if I was ever to do something like that.  But alas, I'm fickle and needle phobic so I'll just have to stick to drawing it.  The design was originally by an artist by the name of Nancy Chien-Eriksen.  I modified the design a bit after listening to some advice that was given on the Ink Master show.  I kinda like the curvier lines that I did better than the original, although there's room for refinement in my opinion.  It didn't help that I chose to break out the jet black ebony pencil to do this.  Damn thing is a bitch to work with for fine line work. I guess I like making myself crazy. I had to use my trusty mechanical fine point to clean up some of the lines and details.  Anyway, damn scanner picked up all the smudges that I thought I had cleaned up.  >:(

Arekino, I know you've seen these two already...

would you ever consider getting a tattoo?

No, but if I were ever to consider that then I might just choose some abstract dragon design. :)

You've made an effective use of negative space in your drawing. It's really suggestive. And it's quite an elegant dragon, I'd say. (although maybe it looks a little overweight ;P )

Have you tried out Gimp BTW?

Credit goes to Mrs. Chien-Eriksen. I only made the whole design more rounded and curvy. Like I said, my modifications look better visually IMO.

No. I went to download it but it was some torrent file and my computer doesn't have the software to do that. I get nervous about downloading things from the toobs anyway. I need to look into some other things first.

Ya know, QoH snuck up on me while I was drawing that dragon. IDK how that happened. I can usually hear her coming up the stairs, but the noisy AC was going. Anyway, she had nothing but negative things to say. That's why I quit doing art in the first place. It really sucks having a "mother" who cannot be supportive. Anyone else would think it was cool and encourage me. But NOOOOOOO! That's my shitty luck in life. I *should have* been allowed to go to the Art Institute, but my talents are stupid, so I waste my life doing the bullshit that I do. /end rant

GIMP is a well known program, if you download it from the official site then there is nothing to get nervous about.

Yep and it's not even that hard to take a second and give some support.

I *should have* been allowed to go to the Art Institute

I gather you were accepted then? Which Art institute is that?

Arekino, I know you've seen these two already...

Yes, I have seen those before. I'm glad you've decided to put them on your blog. Those drawings are beautiful and they deserve to be seen by people.

No, I never applied. It was viewed as a waste of money since art isn't a "real" job and "no one" earns a living doing it. AI Ft Lauderdale is the closest one.

Those drawings are beautiful and they deserve to be seen by people.

Thanks! :)

I had another dragon pic in the conceptualization phase on the same page as the abstract one that I posted. I'm in the process of modifying the original design into something that looks better. In the process, I've realized that I need a bigger sketch pad, but I'll just have to make do with the one I have and make the pic smaller. :)

Okay, I'll look forward to it then. :)

How's your weekend going so far? I've just finished watching a Doctor Who episode. Wasn't too bad.

Crappy so far. QoH is being her usual miserable self. Got into a row right off the bat. I had gotten up and went down to the kitchen. She wanted me to do the few dishes in the sink since she has a sore on her hand and she doesn't want it to get infected(even though it already looks infected IMO). Ya know, if it was me, I'd just wear a rubber glove to do them, but with her, she has to feel like she's making me do something for her since in her twisted mind I "owe her" for taking care of me when I was a kid. Poor her. I *made* her do that, ya know. O_o

Anyway, I did all the dishes that were in the sink when I first got there(and had to endure listening to her read back to me all her notes on the stupid cable news that she watches while I did them--total torture). I was hungry and wanted to eat something. She added a few more things after I had stopped. Then she starts with the 'it only takes a second' nonsense and the 'you *never* finish and always leave a few'. Well, what she added did not take 'only a second' since there were some things that had to be cleaned well and would take me another few minutes.

I told her that I'd do them after I ate something. Then she started with her shit and that 'if I wanted to eat something then I should get up earlier'. (Like that would make a difference. It would be the same shit only earlier.) Then she started bitching about the house being filthy(she's the hoarder, ever try 'cleaning' a hoard?) And of course I'm a horrible evil person who abuses her. LOL Project much? Oh, now she is calling me an atheist. And God will judge me and make me pay for the way I treat her.(Okay, *if* I was an atheist as she claims, wouldn't the whole 'God will punish you' threat be no threat at all to me?) Ugh. I told her that by presuming to call me that(essentially claiming omniscience)and to say that God will punish me is making herself equal with God and that is worse than anything that she accuses me of. That was Satan's sin. I told her that her opinions are not reality. Then she told me that her opinions *are* reality. Gives a glimpse into a sick mind, doesn't it? Oy vey, oy vey, oy vey.

Anyway, last night I made some kick-ass French toast. I used some leftover challah bread and put some vanilla extract and orange extract into the egg and milk along with a little orange juice. It made it especially yummy. You should try it. ;P

That could turn into a nasty case of sepsis. You never know. You just never know...

Best way to clean a hoard is to evict the hoarder. :)

now she is calling me an atheist

Where the heck did she pick up that idea?

I told her that her opinions are not reality.

Oh god, no.

You should try it.

I should, it sounds delicious. :)

I guess it's a continuation of the 'you're just like your father' thing. She likes to tell the story of how his mother proclaimed to be an atheist and said that my father was one, too. So following her "reasoning" to its "logical" conclusion I suppose. O_o

Oh god, no.

Yeah, I'm bold like that. ;P

FWIW, look up the wikipedia pages on 'The Fruit of the Holy Spirit' and 'The Seven Deadly Sins' and compare and contrast. QoH has been quoting the "Ye shall know them by their fruit" verse to me lately. What she should try is reading Matthew chapter 7(that particular verse is at the end of the chapter, but the meat of it is what comes before)and apply it to herself. It's a fairy scathing chapter touching on hypocrisy.

I should, it sounds delicious. :)

Oh, it was. Amazing, actually. You really should try it. I could open up a food truck selling that and breakfast items and make a mint. ;P

BTW, I discovered that I have 'shopping capabilities in the Paint program already on my computer. I was playing around with it a bit last night. If I learn how to use it I might be able to make some cool stuff. :)

Well, that's grounds for divorce right there. :)

I will not stand for the scathing treatment of fairies dammit! ;P

I have 'shopping capabilities in the Paint program

Windows Paint? That would take some realy serious skillz. How do you even use that efficiently with just a mouse?

Heh, that was meant to be 'fairly', but I left it as is to see if you'd catch it. ;P

Windows Paint?

Yup.

Yeah, the first couple tries were absolutely infuriating. I managed to 'shop some Bruce Lee fists onto a Regina pic. I didn't save it 'cuz it looked kinda silly. I'm getting the hang of it, though.

How do you even use that efficiently with just a mouse?

I don't even have a mouse. I only have the touch pad on my laptop. So skilled fingers and a light touch? ;P

I was reading a little book that I have called The Fantasy Art Bible. I definitely could use one of those graphics tablets with the stylus thingies. :)

I have tried out one of those once. It's not a perfect copy of drawing by hand as there is a bit of lag. I suppose there are tablets that are specially made for artists though. I only used a cheap one.

So, are you getting ready for new OUAT episodes?

Just to be able to cut one element from one pic and add it to another without it looking too crappy.

I like that Corel Painter software. It looks like there are all sorts of cool drawing applications and it's not *that* expensive.

I guess I'll just have to keep drawing with pencil the old fashioned way. Less frustrating. ;P

So, are you getting ready for new OUAT episodes?

Yes! Season premiere is this Sunday. I hope QoH doesn't pull any shit to cause me to miss it. She usually likes to come in my bedroom and yammer through large portions of it while it's on. It's absolutely infuriating. I've been recording it because that's inevitably what happens. >:(

I watched the premiere of Gotham last night. Seems like it has potential. And Sleepy Hollow just seems silly and boring now. I had stopped watching it at the end of last season, but gave the new season another try. I don't think I'll be watching it any more. :/

I've actually been watching old eps of Ink Master. Even though I'm not too keen on tattoos, I do like some of the artwork and I get some good tips and ideas from the judges critiques. :)

If you like that then you should really have a looks at what GIMP can do. It's free.

Use the power of the Force... eh...Lock to keep her out, Xul.

On VHS? How many tapes do you have now?

Haven't seen it but still, I don't know, there's no Batman, so... meh.

Sleepy Hollow just seems silly and boring now.

Was that the one with the sexy witches?

Even though I'm not too keen on tattoos

Well, you get to draw on other people with permanent marker. Sounds fun. :P

Yeah. Only 2 and a half. I only keep the best episodes. Season 3 didn't have too many keepers. My VCR decided to act wonky and refuses to accept any other tapes than the one that's currently in there, so I have to resort to recording on one of those old TV/VCR combo ones that I lost the original remote to, so I have to record as I watch. It's very annoying. :/

I don't know, there's no Batman, so... meh.

I'm thinking it's going to meh for me, too, but I'm going to watch one more episode to be sure.

Was that the one with the sexy witches?

Nah, you might be thinking of The Witches of East End which has also gone silly. Unfortunately, Salem doesn't come back on again until next year(only one sexy witch on that one). That one kept me interested week to week.

you get to draw on other people with permanent marker.

OMG, some of those poor victims...er..."clients" on Ink Master...if *I* was some of those peeps I'd be pissed at the shitty ink done on them. I'd be ashamed to do that to someone.

Ya know what's funny? I told you about running into that dude from school at the Publix, right? He was the meat manager there at the time. He had mentioned something about him doing tattooing as well and suggested that I try it. He said he could get me all the pig skin that I would need to practice on. LOL

You shouldn't encourage me, Arekino. You Dutch peeps are a bad influence. One of these days I'm going to take a plane ride over there and get at least two of you! ;P

so I have to record as I watch.

At least you get to watch the reruns. ;)

Sounds like he was flirting with you. :)

and get at least two of you!

For what definition of "get"? You mean tattoo people? Or something else?

You Dutch peeps are a bad influence.

We aim to please. :)

I don't think he was talking about *that* kind of pig skin. ;P

Besides, he's married. And looked reeeally different from when I knew him in school. He got very tall and hefty. I think I'll send ya a pic I have of him with a couple piggies. ;P

For what definition of "get"?

One gets a smack(possibly with a herring), and I'm sure I could devise some special punishments for a certain Arekino. ;P

We aim to please. :)

I can tell. ;P

Seriously, me coming over there is on my bucket list. Preferably around the time of one of those fantasy fest thingies that go on at various castles. That seems like a lot of fun. :)

Hey, has your sis ever gone to one of those music festivals that seem so popular over there in the EU? She seems like the type to do that. The reason I ask is last night I caught a bit of one from Donnington in England. It had various hard rock/metal bands. Rob Zombie, Avenged Sevenfold, Social Distortion, Twisted Sister(to name a few)and a band that I can't recall the name of with a chick lead singer that sounded a bit like Johnette Napolitano from Concrete Blonde. There must've been at least 80,000 peeps there. Looked like fun. We don't have much of that here. The closest thing where I'm at is Ultra Music Festival(which is electronica)downtown and the stupid politicians were trying to get it banned.

Sure.

She used to be. I donĀ“t think she goes anymore because she's in her 40's now. I could be wrong.

We don't have much of that here.

So what do you get instead?

because she's in her 40's now.

Well that's hardly a reason to stop. Half the performers at the Donnington one were at least 40+. ;P

So what do you get instead?

Florida doesn't get much of anything. SFL doesn't have much of a metal scene(mostly non-existent). The last time Iron Maiden came to town it was sold out before I realized they were coming to town.

For the kind of music that I like, I'd have to move to LA or NY/NJ to see any live music that appeals to me. :/
